Solid State Logic has been producing affordable USB audio interfaces for the past four-or-so years, its SSL 2, 2+ and 12 bringing a slice of SSL quality and kudos to even the humblest of recording rigs.

These desktop boxes are well-matched to the needs of a small home studio or mobile setup, but are inadequate for producers with bigger fish to fry – those recording full bands, or working with large amounts of analogue gear, for example. The new SSL 18 doesn’t so much close this gap as slam it shut...
