  1. While Frap Tools is typically known for its Eurorack modular synths, the Italian company is branching out. Magnolia comes as Frap Tools’ very first keyboard synthesiser, and it’s rammed with all of the brand’s signature analogue sounds, from the Brenso to the Cunsa. The Magnolia boasts an eight-voice polyphony, with two ‘Carrier’ and ‘Modulator’ oscillators. The pair of oscillators are derived from the company’s 30HP Brenso, reworking the module’s two triangle-core oscillators...   2. A collection of studio gear belonging to late British DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall is now up for auction. His family is selling 12 pieces of his production arsenal via Soundgas, including sequencers, vintage synths and pedals. The auction is now live, and is scheduled to end Sunday May 11 at 11pm BST. Highlights of the collection include a Roland Juno-60, Moog Rogue, Dunlop TS-1 Stereo Tremolo pedal, and an Ensoniq DP/4 parallel effects processor. There’s also a Roland Rhythm TR-77 drum machine, a Sequential Circuits Pro synth, and a Tech 21 Comptortion pedal...   5. Arturia and Native Instruments (NI) have confirmed a new product partnership under the ongoing NKS Hardware Partner Program, making it easier to use NKS plugins with Arturia hardware. From here on out, the mainstay NI integration technology, Native Kontrol Standard (NKS), will be integrated into Arturia hardware.   10. Spotify has recorded even more growth across the first quarter of the year, with its highest subscriber net adds since 2020. The platform has shared its latest Q1 report, revealing a record high operating income (its profit after deducting operating expenses), which rose to €509 million across the quarter, and a premium subscriber count of 268 million – an increase of 12 per cent year over year, marking the the second-highest Q1 in Spotify’s history. Monthly active users reached 678 million (up by 10 per cent Y/Y), and total revenue was also up by 15 per cent to €4.2 billion... And according to a new study, a surprising number of producers and musicians are secretly using it in their work, even as public stigma keeps them quiet. The study, titled AI in the Music Industry – Should You Fight It, Ignore It, or Embrace It?, surveyed more than 100 industry professionals and music consumers with the aim of sparking conversation around AI use and helping creatives better prepare for what’s ahead. In a bid to expand its reach into the plugin market, Splice has acquired British virtual instrument library purveyor Spitfire Audio for a reported $50 million, according to the Financial Times [via Music Business Worldwide].   16. With The Guardian calling 2024 the year of the “precipitous decline of UK nightclubs”, it’s evident that the clubbing industry has been struggling. A Capital On Tap report even suggests 57% of London’s clubs will close by 2030 – but 2025 could change that. According to the report, London lost nearly 18% of its clubs and pubs between 2022 and 2025. Based on these figures alone, the UK capital is on chart for a steep decline.   18. With less than 100 ever produced, the three-tiered Yamaha GX-1 is something of synth legend. First released in 1973, the extremely rare model marks Yamaha’s historical entry into the synth market. And one is currently up for auction for £99,950. But this isn’t an ordinary GX-1. The synth was once owned by none other than electronic visionary Aphex Twin. While in his possession, he also asked Colin Fraser of Sequentix to restore the synth to its former glory, as well as requesting the addition of MIDI functionality...
