  1. To RTFM or not to RTFM? While concerns rise about AI‘s impact on the music industry, some creatives like producer Myler Melodies have found AI tools that can aid musicians without threatening their artistry. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI technology, NotebookLM is one resource that could help you make sense of those confusing gear manuals. First introduced in July 2023, NotebookLM can wade through documents and PDFs on your behalf. That means, if you upload a complex synth manual, it can process all of the information and understand every feature in under a minute. Then you’re free to ask questions, with NotebookLM serving as an all-knowing teacher... The post Could Google NotebookLM help you never read a gear manual again? appeared first on MusicTech. 2. At present, few issues pervade the music conversation quite like the regulation of AI. With more music creation tools cropping up driven by artificial intelligence, many worry that the human creators of the source material on which they are trained aren’t being attributed and compensated fairly. German-British composer and pianist Max Richter made his thoughts on the matter known earlier this week, when he gave a speech to MPs calling for greater protection for music creators… The post “Music is the closest thing humanity has to magic – but it will fade into history unless we support creators’ rights”: Max Richter blasts proposals to allow AI companies to train models on copyrighted material appeared first on MusicTech. 3. Musical AI, a rights management platform for generative AI, has raised $2.1 million (CAD) in initial investment to support its attribution model, said to be the first of its kind. The investment is led by Build Ventures, one of Canada’s largest VC firms investing in startups, and select angel investors are also contributing. Rights holders such as Symphonic Distribution, Kanjian, and others are currently on board, and AI companies such as Beatoven are also signing on. 4. Ever wondered what’s in your morning cereal? Easy – just turn the packaging over and, by law, you’ll see the maker’s clear list of ingredients. Flick on a morning playlist, however, and there’s no immediate way to tell if the song you’re listening to is real or AI-generated. AI content is filling up streaming platforms. Some mimic the voices of living artists, some the voices of the deceased, and some are batch-generated and posted under the name of entirely fictional artists. All of it draws revenue away from working musicians. A recent study by MusicMagpie, estimates that, on YouTube alone, there are already well over 1.5 million AI cover tracks. After analysing the 1,500 top-performing AI tracks, they found that Blackpink, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West were out in front as the most AI-plagiarised artists, racking up over 33 million views between them... 7. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been revolutionizing many industries, and Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is no exception. AI is already being used to generate melodies, create beats, and even produce entire tracks autonomously, which raises an intriguing question: Can AI replace human musicians in EDM? In this article, we will explore the limitations of AI in EDM, specifically how AI struggles to capture human emotion, improvisation, and artistic intention. We’ll also dive into the opinions of EDM artists and producers about AI’s place in the creative process, and whether machines can truly replace the human touch in dance music creation... 8. Wow, crazy times, the best technology in the world is now becoming incredibly cheap and accessible to everyone! 🤯 DeepSeek's AI chatbot has become the top free app on Apple's store since its January launch. This rapid success, fuelled by DeepSeek's cost-effectiveness compared to US competitors, has sent shockwaves through financial markets. Venture capitalist Marc Andreessen has lauded DeepSeek's AI as a "groundbreaking achievement," while the company claims it's models rival industry leaders like ChatGPT at a fraction of the cost. DeepSeek reportedly invested only $6 million in its development, a stark contrast to the billions spent by US AI companies. Links DeepSeek Homepage What is DeepSeek? 9. Both Paul McCartney and Elton John have spoken out against proposed changes to UK copyright law, which could allow AI developers to mine from creators’ content on the internet. The suggested change would mean creative works could be used to develop AI models unless the rights holders actively opt out. Many have argued that an artist would face a lot of difficulty in trying to contact thousands of different AI companies to do so, and that keeping track of where their creations have been used across the web would be incredibly challenging... Eletctro-pop pioneer Gary Numan has always been drawn to the world of technology. 1979 saw him releasing two tracks pondering a tech-infused future, with Tubeway Army’s Are ‘Friends’ Electric? topping UK charts and solo track Metal pondering humanoid robots. However, the advancing capabilities of AI in music have changed his previous fascination with technology to something closer to horror. “The new album I’m working on now is devoted entirely to Al and how it might impact humanity,” he admits in the latest issue of Blitzed. “I’m fascinated and horrified in equal measure.” ...
