Rhodes has brought a prototype of the new Rhodes Stage 61 to the 2025 NAMM Show. A more compact and portable alternative to the MK8, the Rhodes Stage 61 is a modern electro-mechanical piano for touring musicians. Alongside the MIDI-fied MK8, Rhodes is showing the new Stage 61 at NAMM this year. And contrary to what I expected when the manufacturer first hinted at a compact stage piano a couple of weeks ago, it is not a digital piano with sounds from the Rhodes Anthology plugin. NAMM 2025: Nord has added a new model to its flagship Nord Piano range, the Nord Piano 6. Chief among its new features is advanced layering functionality, which enables the player to two independent piano or sample-based synth layers at once, with each layer controllable via an LED-equipped fader. As with prior models in the Nord Piano range, sounds in the Nord Piano 6 are sampled using a wide range of real-world instruments. In the piano section, those instruments include a range of grand, upright and electric pianos from Nord’s Piano Library – with new features like Dynamic Compression and Unison – while the synth section emulates sounds from guitars to orchestral elements to classic analogue synths. In addition to the new Nord Organ 3, Nord Keyboards is set to unveil the new Nord Piano 6 at NAMM 2025. The new generation of the stage piano offers an improved dual-layer workflow for easier handling of split and layer sounds. What’s new in the Nord Piano 6 – and do you still need the Nord Grand 2? Nord Piano 6 It’s been four years since Nord brought the dual-layer architecture from the Nord Stage to the Nord Piano line. The new Nord Piano 6 offers the same structure with two independent piano layers and two sample synths. However, the panel has been redesigned to make it easier to adjust layers on the fly on stage. With these workflow improvements and a slew of new effects, this update brings the Nord Piano very close to the Nord Grand 2 in terms of features. As before, the Nord Piano 6 offers 2 GB of memory for the Nord Piano Library and 1 GB for samples. Rather than adding more memory or groundbreaking new features to the piano and synth sections, Nord focused on refining the dual-layer workflow and the effects section. Like the Nord Grand 2, the Nord Piano 6 now offers dedicated LED faders for each layer in the piano and synth sections. This means you can easily adjust the volume balance between the parts on the fly, without having to select a layer first. A great time-saver on stage! ... The Electric Piano remains one of the most distinctive and timeless sounds in recorded music history. We’ve selected some of the best stage pianos available for recreating classic Rhodes and Wurlitzer sounds both in studio and on stage. A marvel of post-war engineering, the electric piano’s original designs used a system in which hammers strike thin metal rods called tines which are connected to tone bars and amplified with pickups that perpetuate sound in a similar way to the electric guitar. Where the Rhodes and the Wurlitzer differ is the fact that the Wurlitzer uses metal reeds as opposed to rods. This, of course, produces a different sound, and while the Wurlitzer has a unique midrange bite, the Rhodes has a longer sustain... He bought it for himself about a month ago and it IS, THE DADDY. It's got all the pro stuff on it, you can pop in floppy discs in, compse your own tunes, have lessons - there is [censored] LOADS of things you can do on it. I would LOVE to have one of these ! Lucky bastard
