The first of the four one-off parties sees Black Strobe’s Arnauld Rebotini, The Futureheads, Tiga favourite Sweetlight (Turbo), Mystery Jets, ISSST’s Bobby M, Friendly Fires and more coming together in a Shoreditch (EC2A) warehouse for a legendary DJ assault that will encompass bass heavy, skewed electro-techno, razor-sharp punk funk, biker house and warped art-rock. Taking centre stage is Arnaud Rebotini, one half (with Ivan Smagghe) of the deviant duo that is Black Strobe. Coming from the punk disco epicentre of the bleepin’ universe, they are masters of the dark side of electro, biker-house and raw techno rock. The darker dancefloor champions of big grooves with a dark and sinister heart. They've remixed Depeche Mode, The Rapture, Tiefschwarz, Dave Clarke, Playgroup and (kings of EBM) Nitzer Ebb, which should give you an idea where they're coming from. "Electronic music that is not afraid to scare people," as they like to call it. The Futureheads superb ‘Skip To The End’ (best track of ’06 in our book!), remixed by Digitalism, has torn countless dancefloors to shreds. Sunderland’s world beaters take time out from touring the globe with the likes of Franz Ferdinand and co to leads the pop-punk warehouse charge… danceable and energetic, stuttering and witty, the great reclaimers of pogoing vogue, we welcome the mighty Futureheads! Next up are Erol Alkan’s latest studio partners, Mystery Jets. The Trash legend together with the Jets are hotly tipped for their unique brand of scrapyard punk and demented pop, a sound which has seen them share the same stages as the Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp. These Eel Pie Islanders come from a place that gave birth to the musical careers of The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd amongst others and what makes them stand out head and shoulders above the rest is their sheer willing to embrace the musical oddity and nutty noises, with the help of Mr Alkan, like no other. Continuing the cosmopolitan strand we give you Tiga’s favourite Frenchman, Sweetlight. Sweetlight first came under the international spotlight with his now legendary collaboration with Dan Ghenacia ‘Abusator’. An insane rave-bomb with acid flashbacks. The 2ManyDJs edit followed and it quickly became a Sweetlight anthem. Fast forward to Sweetlight’s most recent release, an amazing cover version of French legend Etienne Daho… such an amazing piece of music that Tiga ended all of his sets with it, for a year!… so good, that Tiga himself went to pain-staking lengths to re-launch his Turbo imprint and endure worldwide legal battles just so he could release this gem. Sweetlight’s recordings credentials are heavy to say the least, he’s recorded/remixed for Freak N Chic, K7, Output, Skint, Turbo and the rest, but production aside the man is a sh*t hot DJ. One of the best we’ve ever seen, no joke. His influences range across the board (from pop to indie to electronic to rave), he has the most amazing record collection, and even more amazing mixing skills… we can only describe him as similar to a one man 2ManyDJs. Truly genius. That brings us onto Friendly Fires. In the midst of their UK tour, the buzz on Friendly Fires is huge if the industry scrum over them is anything to go by. If it’s “One’s to watch” that’s being talked about, then theirs is the name that’s always dropped from those in the know. Formed out of the ashes of a St Albans hardcore band, Friendly Fires now make a devastating mix of razor-sharp, wired and wirey punk-funk. Stripped-back twists, lush massive, tingly chords, a modern twist on the My Bloody Valentine sound… Friendly Fires are the real deal. And finally, following on from the very special ISSST NYE shindig, no London warehouse party would be complete without Bobby M. Resident and Promoter of ISSST and SLAANG, Bobby M will be on hand to serve up his own futuristic fusion of acid house, rich angular electro/techno, rave and nervy disco. SLAANG will rise across the capital for four exclusive one-off parties throughout 2007... four of the most lavishly raw secret parties ever experienced, before dissipating below ground once again. SLAANG PART TWO ANNOUNCED FOR MAY BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND Following up the raucous sold out Part One, details of the titanic Part Two of SLAANG are announced for bank holiday weekend Saturday, May 5th. Leading the charge will be a rare performance from London legend and now darling of the Berlin scene Jesse Rose (Get Physical). SLAANG likes to do it live too so Para One will be flying over from France, while London will be represented by Padded Cell. Also, hand-picked DJ sets from today's most exciting young bloods, Kissy Sell Out, Punks Jump Up and Mock & Toof (DFA). Holding it all together – or more probably tearing it apart – will be residents, fellow ISSST conspirators and warehouse specialists Bobby M and Kevin Griffiths alongside fresh talent from the London underground in the form of Welfare For The Digital (Innuendo), and MiMo's Chris Jones and Aaron Ashley. Funktion 1 sound throughout and those very special SLAANG touches. The Bank Holiday weekend kindly offering up the much needed extra recovery time. SLAANG – ‘more edgy, more vulgar, more taboo’ – Part One, the first in the series of four very special parties, took place under two railway arches in deepest, darkest East London on March 3rd and proved to be all that and more - sold out in advance with many an unlucky soul left clamouring for tickets. This really was partying like there's no tomorrow. Part Two sees SLAANG setting it's sights on a new space in London, deploying its unique creative vision and fashioning this dark and dirty space into a lavishly raw and unforgettable site for the next apocalyptic musical assault encompassing bass-heavy, skewed electro-techno, razor-sharp punk funk, biker house and warped art-rock. Jesse Rose: one of London's favourite sons, Jesse Rose has been rockin' Fabric and the cooler European clubs with his distinctive dub-heavy, low-slung sound for some time now. A collaborator with the likes of Switch and Trevor Loveys, and the driving force behind labels like Front Room, Loungin' and Made To Play, Jesse has recently relocated to Berlin and mixed the latest instalment of ‘Body Language’ for Get Physical Music to great critical acclaim. A true musical innovator, this is a unique opportunity to hear him play in a warehouse environment. Para One: The brightest star from Institube's French trendustry, Jean-Baptiste de Laubier is Para One and will be bombarding and mangling his unique brand of tough and dirty electro mayhem that has been played the f**k out of by Boys Noize, MSTRKRFT and the like. His sh*t is tight, his sh*t is tough… and we want it LIVE in a big f**k off warehouse. Padded Cell: Also performing live will be Padded Cell and the duo of Richard Sen and Neil Beatnik have been winning friends and influencing people with their notorious live shows since 2002. Their sound has been variously described as ‘dark disco’, ‘goth disco rock’, and ‘devil’s disco’ – sounds perfect for the SLAANG vibe then. Kissy Sell Out: Straight out of Bethnal Green, meanwhile, comes Kissy Sell Out. He's been mixin' 'n' matchin' it with the best of late and has already become a firm favourite with none other than the Daft Punk'ers. Real name Thomas Bisdee… an art student with a genius remix touch, Black Ghosts, Dorp and most notably All Saints all getting the Kissy Sell Out remix treatment recently. Kissy's gonna rock it. Punks Jump Up: These guys do as their name suggests and the part English, part Swedish duo's DJ sets combine indie, punk and disco in a warped collision of sonic irreverence. With releases on labels like Cassette and Kitsune they're no slouches in the production department either – just check out their anthem, ‘Dance To Our Disco’, to get a taste of what to expect. Mock & Toof: Mr Mock and Mr Toof have been busy kneeding the M&T leftfield, disco vibe into 12”s for Back Yard, DFA Records and their own Tiny Sticks label… Juan Maclean, The Scissor Sisters and Hot Chip have all gone under the M&T knife to critical acclaim. Up their sleeves is a hush hush, soon to surface Mock & Toof DFA project... and their modern take on wonky disco DJ sets have become stuff of legend. Lindstrom likes them, Metro Area like them, Smagghe likes them, we like them… you'll like them too. We promise. Forget purpose built superclubs, each of SLAANG's four one-off, anomalous parties will be the bleeding edge, the joie de vivre of today's scene - with a nod to our acid house past, but both feet firmly in the future, sparking a freakish collision between the heroes of rave and rock, the avant-garde leaders of indie and electro and an edgy, like-minded, dontgiveaf**k crowd. SLAANG. Location details for SLAANG Part Two will be announced 1wk before the event at www.slaang.net and www.myspace.com/slaang SLAANG ...more edgy, more vulgar, more taboo Join us at www.myspace.com/slaang For more info: SLAANG/ISSST / press@issst.com / +44 [0] 7808 582 739 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SLAANG: 5th_May_2007 Part 2 of 4: Secret Warehouse Party TICKETWEB: www.ticketweb.co.uk / 08700 600 100 CLUBTICKETS: www.clubtickets.com / / 0870 246 2050 VIEWTICKETS: www.viewtickets.co.uk
