Turnmills #Turnmills

Turnmills was a building located on the corner of Turnmill Street and Clerkenwell Road in London, initially built in 1886 as a warehouse for the Great Northern Railway Company. It later served as a gin distillery warehouse before being transformed into a bar in 1985 and subsequently a nightclub in 1990. Turnmills became a pivotal venue in the UK's nightlife scene, notably being the first club to obtain a 24-hour alcohol license, which significantly contributed to the rise of all-night clubbing in the 1990s. It was home to influential club nights like Xanadu and Trade, the latter being the UK's first legal after-hours club, and hosted residencies for renowned artists such as The Chemical Brothers. Despite its cultural significance and attempts to save it, Turnmills closed its doors on March 24, 2008, due to the expiration of its lease, and was eventually demolished to make way for a new office building.
