Tsunami

Well apparantly the Thai government also had at least 2 hours notice of the tsunami, but they chose not to issue a warning as they didn't want to disturb the tourists.

 

That's fecking stupid ! :S

Not having a go but the list is endless of natural disasters . Its a poor country so its food or warning equipment

that is a fair point, but surely when they received news of the tsunami they could have warned them?

Yes, deffinatly. Of course there still would have been deaths, but I don't think there would have still been hundreds and thousands of them. Maybe this will make them eager to begin to build structures able to cope with such events if it were to happen again in the future.

Think it was 30ish min from the earthquake till the first waves hit . That would have been panic & saved very few lives and given warning "you are going to die"

but in others there was a much longer space of time till they first hit! it is understandable that in those places closer to the epicentre it would be harder. But had their been warnings atleast then those people would have had a chance wouldnt they? without them thousands of people who didnt need to die did.

i fink this is a bit like the village that got washed out last year - you can build walls so high, but if the sea comes up higher, which it can do easily, ur fucked

Yes, but at least there would be structures in place to DECREASE the damage, if any at all ..

We have quite a few fault lines doted in and around Britain, just none that are very violent or that active at the moment...
