im going with Chris on this one hence my original question ref them cracking down on it...

I agree with Emma's statement ref * at the end of the day police have better things to do than going after people who download the odd file for personal use.* You would think eh, but obviously not sad.gif

How can you not agree with them going after people who download films and music for 'personal use'?!? Its still theft, and at the end of the day, somebodies livlihood is at stake because of it

You wouldnt like it if you worked at tesco and they said "we cant afford to pay you because people have been nicking food - we didnt think it was a problem as they were only taking 1 item at a time and not selling them on, but now we realise we havent actually made any money because EVERYONE has been doing it"

Surely you can understand that??

How true it is but I heard that its only illegal if you burn them . thats why 'ogg' audio was invented cos it only works on audio players

Nope, obtaining ANY copywritten material in ANY form is illegal unless you have paid the neccesary people for it (and I dont mean the odd looking bloke at a market stall lol.gif )

Scenario...

A granny getting mug & raped or a person like you or I sat at pc sharing files....

which one is more important to be dealt with first???

IMO the granny bigwink.gif That is as I say not to say that the file sharing should not be sorted too, but like I say I think priorities etc thumbsup.gif

surely it's easier to shut down the file share programs like they did to napster years ago than hunt individuals

I dont deny that, but your missing the statistics from your arguement... the number of grannies mugged a year will be minute in comparison to the number of people who steal other peoples work etc

No because programs that utilise p2p networking are not illegal - Windows XP has it installed as part of its 'remote servicing' systems... its the files users send to and from these programs that is illegal which is why the only way to stop is to go after everyone who shares them
