has anyone got a template or anything for me to do a CV?

 

iv not done one for near on 10 years and have kinda forgot everything

what job are you applying for?

anything really, as long as its part time monday-friday (preferably school time)

 

office (though dont want to, cant stand seeing the same people day in day out)

hospitality would suit me, cus im qualified in most aspects, but theres not much call for day work

this is a guess (it's what i do) but some companies might prefer bog standard times new roman rather than lines and boxes everywhere, in case they can't view fancy formatting on their computer. hope big ee see's this to back me up or not.

First check if they want you to complete an application form, if they send you one use that. Add a covering letter. see below.

 

These days' if they ask for a cv, u should amend yours to suit the job you are going for. Email the CV and covering letter, as seperate documents, on one e-mail.

Go with a formatted cv in ms word. All versions of word from 97 onwards can be read by all earlier and subsequent versions, so u won't have problem. You should embed the fonts, see help, then it will print as you have formatted. Add a non-formatted version, of the cv, for ease of download into their systems, but label it clearly.

 

The CV should cover all employment, and experience, from latest first, back to A-levels or gcse's. No more than one, maximum two pages. Intrests, and hobby's ideally showing team playerness restricted to one line.

Remember the three most imporatnt things they are looking for are experience experience and experience, and how it fits to their job and person spec. Qualifications are a poor 4th. So the CV should demonstrate how your past employement/experience fits into what they are looking for, and how you achived what you say you did.

 

'I ran a whelk stall' is good.

 

But 'I managed 3 people who helped me turn a loss making whelk stall, to 10% year on year growth, and profitable whelk stall. I delegatied marketing, Stock management and sales, to my three co-workers. But I retained responsibility for purchasing finance and management controls, whist driving the strategic changes nesseary to compete in a crowded market. I managed the growth by using motivational team building techniques, incentivising and setting sales targets. We used 1 to 1 marketing approaches, introduced brand loyalty schemes, and obtained good FOC PR by initaiting several local initiatives'

Sounds a hell of a lot better.

 

So in a nut shell say what you have done and how you did it. The covering letter should really hone in on why you are the perfect candidate for them, and pull out two bits of skill or experince that demonstate that.

 

Bold is good cos most people spend about a minuite on each cv so the stuff down the middle that is in bold needs to grab the attention to force the eye's to read the rest of the paragraph.

 

Remember what David Brent said. 'No one wan'ts to employ unlucky people so i throw half the CV's I get away without reading them'

is there no end to your talents big_ee69? I mean you're a doctor, a medical rep, a music guru and a careers advisor by all accounts. you know what there is a term for someone like you. It is "MASTER BULLSHITTER". Maybe you could put that down on your cv, ya never know you could be an MP with that sort of qualification!!

Which leaves me with a fairly comprehensive knowledge tho certainly not expertise of these area's, the operation of which is managed by the experts. + Phil asked, so i answered.

 

And u are completely free to ignore the advice, I'm just telling it like it is.
