bukey ok i may be a bit out on times but as proved i am totally clueless to politics

and also many teens drink anyway age appropriate or not so if they can vote they can vote to drink early

Thing is, they couldn't vote to lower the drinking age. 16 - 18 year olds wouldn't make up a majority. Even then, it would be down to the elected representitives (Members of Parliament) and the non-elected house (House of Lords) to pass laws, not the minority of 16 - 18 year olds.

errrrrrrrr  domo thats totally up to james he is admin

and bukey runs his own site

and shaney has a bit of power lol he is a photographer

Eeek... Haven't got the time, I'm not around enough... Also, I'm a mod on the Sundis board, and that's enough hard work... Then with work... Then Emergence... LOL.... I've got far too much on my plate already!

busy busy bukey lol

i stil think lowereing the age would work as long as the younger kids were more educated in politics and the importance of their vote, granted there will still be a few idiot kids who will think it funny to vote extremist or waste there vote but theres a lot of responsible 16/17 year olds out there who are more than capable of making a decision.

Sorry Dani, got to disagree... Facts:

* At 16 your body is not necessarily developed enough to cope with alcohol.

And perhaps your mind is not sufficiently developed to vote either????

Further to your reply Bukes, and I ccan't be bothered to quote individual bits:

The point is that at 16 far more adolescents are simply not mature enough to vote, I never suggested all. Yet we have to have a system which endeavours to minimise the opportunity of abusing that system. At 16 is is simply more feasible that dubious voting patterns would occur.

As a nation with the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe i seems somewhat of a paradox to suggest that a 16 year old is capable of reasoning whom to vote for yet is unable to remember to use a condom.

The part of the brain that limits are reckless behaviour is not fully developed until we are well into our 20's hence the general feeling of invinciblity/immortality amongst teenagers. If anything this is an argument for raising the voting age and not lowering it.

My teenage daughter has been kidnapped, and the people I work with may be involved in both.

I see exactly what your saying Tresh and agree in a way that the way a lot of the youth of today is making them vote could be a mistake which is why the way kids were educated about politics and voting would have to change considerably

Re the teenage pregnancy rates i think shock tactics are needed at a young age, sex ed in school was shit when i was there and dont think its been improved much now! I think kids at yound as 12 should be spoken too by teenage mums and shocked into realising how hard it can be and that its not just an easy way to get their own flat!

kate i was a teenage mum twice over, and shock tactics dont work beleive me and it was cos i was drunk at a new years eve party with my bf neil that we forgot to use something and i fell pregnant.

and beleive me no matter what shock tactics u use it wont work girls still will go out and drink and have sex well not jus girls guys are to blame too as they are the 2nd part to a pregnancy

i knew gals younger who had babys friends got pregnant at school, i was at college wen i did, i knew it wasnt the best life i saw them struggle i saw 2 friends mums take on there kids and thought i would be different but i had to babys at 17 and 18 and couldnt cope i rebelled at the lack of help and lost my 2 boys so i know it wont work.

i have got shay now though and i am doin well i was 21 wen i had shay and a lot more grown up

i think it should be raised to 21 as that is wen u really are classed as an adult and have enough life expereince to make better choices imo and are far more mature

u cant base it on few teens are mature others not so as u need a majority and u cant guarantee

no matter how much school teaches u about sex ed or politics untill u have lived and learned through life experiences then u are never fully mature enough to no exactly ur own mind

now that is me admitting something very hard to admit sad.gif

Tresh, I take your points. I think, however, that giving people a bit of responsibility and educating people properly in such matters would work.

did you not know about the morning after pill dani. Did you know about all the different types of contraceptive you could have been on ie injection/the thing you have in your arm which makes it impossible t forget taking the pill but your still protected even if you dont use a condom (which is still very silly but better be protected against some things than nothing) I know that when i was at school i wasnt sure about things like that - girls need to know about it - i think they should have access to a brook advisory clinic or something like that and that they should have nurses go in and talk to them at again approx 13.

A lot of it is stupidity and please dont think im having a go at you personally dani cos im not but teenage single mums are something i have a bit of an issue with and in a lot of cases feel sorry for. I know its not in all cases but i think ina lot of cases it due to them being scared of doing anything about it until its too late and not knowing about contraceptive methods or having access to them at an early enough age! Its a bit disturbing that people think kids of 13 and younger should have to be tought about contraception and have access to it but surely rather that than even more teenage mums who are living off the state

i do see what u mean and yes i did no as we did have a local health store which was a contraceptive and pregnancy centre for under 25s and me and my mates were sexually active from 14 and getting condoms from there so i wasnt clueless i was stupid, but i was not single same dad 2 boys. he left me after 2nd boy though he is now a father to 6 children altogether.

i knew about the morning after pill but at 16 you are to naieve to go do something about it and unless your in the situation you cant say you would do different as believe me i was always the one to be sketchy at the slightest thing we shouldnt do and the safety concious one

that is why i state that untill u have enough life experiences to fully know in a situation u cant be fully classed as an adult

growing up is about life experiences and knowing right from wrong i have done a lot wrong in the past but past couple of years have sorted myself out cos i learnt from my mistakes, hence i grew up and i am now fully an adult from the learning experience

Exactly dani which i why i said not aimed at you as yours was a different situation to a lot of the young girls that get pregnant. You were in a relationship that you thought was secure. You get a lot of girls though that will just aim to get pregnant by anyone cos they wnt a baby. Thayre the main type that i have a problem with as they will bring kids intothe world with no though as to how they will provide for them or what theyre going to have to give up for them

yer i know a girl i went school with was like that she wanted a baby

she finally had one jus after i had my first and then said her bf had raped her and that she was giving the baby up for adoption she said he raped her so he couldnt have the child but ppl came forward and witnesed against her as they were a strong couple and she admitted lying she tried to stop her baby from having a father when she didnt want it. at least she has been brought up by her real dad though

needless to say i nearly killed her

but my point is even i was young and stupid like many then and so it shouldnt be lowered as i still say u should be mature enough to vote and some arnt even mature at 18
