CTW Members Mr Happy Posted March 12, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted March 12, 2004 everyone i talk to says they find breakbeat easer to beatmatch than 4-to-the-floor as theres more going on in breaks i have no idea how they came to that conclusion as i cant seem to mix it for shit so ar, its the only genre i find harder to mix than hardhouse alot of people say techno is the hardest thing theyve tryed to mix, but i find it the easyest to beatmatch and the easyest to actually mix in . and i'm completly hopeless at hardhouse i guess its just what your used to at the end of the day. CTW Members BenRW Posted March 15, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted March 15, 2004 anything with a similar speed (within 20 bpm) i find just as easy to mix not depending on style. Its noting where the beats are and transforming that into something to beat match with (if that makes any sense) Quote I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse. CTW Members Mr Happy Posted March 15, 2004 Author CTW Members Share Posted March 15, 2004 the thing is, i can get the speed right etc w/o too much hassel. i just cant work out if i need to speed up or slow down the record when they start phasing out heaving said that, i find techno with a broken beat a piece of piss Quote Mr Happy's fishy fish MangaFish munch munch MSN & e-mail - mangafish@mangafish.net AOL - MangaMorgan Online mixes - http://www.mangafish.net/mixes/
CTW Members BenRW Posted March 15, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted March 15, 2004 QUOTE (Mr_Happy @ Mar 15 2004, 00:08) the thing is, i can get the speed right etc w/o too much hassel. i just cant work out if i need to speed up or slow down the record when they start phasing out heaving said that, i find techno with a broken beat a piece of piss ah speeding up or slowing the track down is something which does come with time. It took me ages til i suddenly realised i knew whether to speed it up or slow it down. Generally i don't find that different styles matter. I can see breakbeat being easier for it as each track has a very varied beat and so u can recognise each one seperately far more easily Quote I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse. CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted March 15, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted March 15, 2004 QUOTE (Mr_Happy @ Mar 12 2004, 22:20) alot of people say techno is the hardest thing theyve tryed to mix, but i find it the easyest to beatmatch and the easyest to actually mix in All techno is not the same. My style of techno is a bit funkier than yours - some of the quirky stuff with really heavy syncopation and/or swing can be an absolute bastard to mix. If you come round my place, I'll stick two funky techno records in front of you and see how well you mix them... Besides, beatmatching is less than half the story. Trying to time the mix correctly and blending the tracks can be tricky too - again it depends what style of techno you're playing, and how DJ-friendly the producer has been. CTW Members Mr Happy Posted March 15, 2004 Author CTW Members Share Posted March 15, 2004 i know that you have to bare in mind, just because the stuff i stick on cd is harder and more bass driven, it doesnt meen i dont have quirky creative techno tracks (some of which dont even have a kick, let alone a quirtky one). granted i dont tend to go far down the funky rouite, but i has some bastard tracks to mix. still find them easyer to work with than hardhouse tho. having said all that - i'd love to have a spin of some of your records andy as i have very few tracks with a beat thats delibratly out-of-beat like your funky tracks Quote Mr Happy's fishy fish MangaFish munch munch MSN & e-mail - mangafish@mangafish.net AOL - MangaMorgan Online mixes - http://www.mangafish.net/mixes/
