Any microsoft windows 98 experts about?

My machine has taken up doing weird things, when I go to delete multiple files at the same time, or copy (drag & odrop/cut & paste) files, explorer reports a page error (I can give you the error stuff if you want), and it is the same if it is from my hard drive or CDS or anything. I have re-run set up from the 98 CD, and it makes no diffrence. Any (serious) suggestions?

It might be worth running scandisk, just to make sure nothing has gone wrong.

0.5) backup drivers - sound card / video card etc...

1) quick format (type format c: /q on the c:\ prompt (DOS))

2) start machine with win98 cd (if CD start supported (or make boot floppy b4 step 1))

3) install Operatin System

4) reload drivers

5) reinstall software / settings

Involves backing up loads of [censored] tho....if my machine was behaving itself, I could just use partition magic, copy it all onto a seperate partition, and then do it!!

Try just reinstalling Win98 over the top!

a long shot i know - but check ur IDE cables r securly pluged in

page error indicates there could be a problem with your virtual memory swap file, possibly caused by problems on the hard disk?

 

i'd suggest a defrag if you haven't already, then have a look at virtual memory settings (can be found in My Computer|Properties|Virtual Memory... I think) and see if there's anything there that catches your eye.

 

failing that, it's the mantra every windows user loves to hear; backup, reformat, reinstall!

Have created a partition to back up the 6Gig into, and am just remembering my Dos so I can copy everything I wanna back up using Dos before reformatting!!
