Depends exactly what you mean. If you're literally just talking about production skill, I'd probably say Chab, a Swiss progressive house / deep house / trance producer. He has done some outstanding tracks, and some average ones, but all of them are impeccably produced.

If you mean "artist", i.e. someone who writes wicked tunes, I might choose someone who writes rather more inspired tunes, such as Brian Zentz or Tony Thomas, who have done a real range of quality tunes across many styles. Also Umek seems to churn out quality track after quality track, with his own identifiable sound of techno.

I also think Push/MIKE is a very talented composer, if slightly let down by the production of his tracks.

Too many others to mention ...

Liam Howlett

I admire him for his productions, but also for his attitude towards his work.

Yeah mate - scratch everything I said before. When you look at how creative & ambitious some of The Prodigy's stuff is, it's incredible the production is so good. Especially The Fat of The Land and some of the stuff on Music For The Jilted Generation. Howlett puts most house producers to shame!

That said, I'd love to hear him compose more "conventional" techno/house etc (i.e. my own genres of choice!)

i dont think the guy would know how to.

he DJs breaks. so i guess he could write a conventional breaks tune but i dont think 4-2-the-floor interests him much

maybe it wouldnt interest him, but i know for a fact he could put most house/techno producers to shame if he did

Laurence, your post was edited as it was way out of line.
