ok i need a rant...

on another site someone said they were depressed.

we all added our responses and as someone posted a link to us talking bout it b4 i just put ' sadly its something some people have for life, its about dealing with it how ever u can,i.e treatments etc. chin up anyway.

ok it was blunt but as in the link i put bout 40 lines bout depression and stuff,i felt i didnt want to dribble on again and bore people.

so anyway... some girl starts saying i was harsh, she works in mental health blah blah blah.

however the girl has never had depression! mad.gif

she's rattling on yet she has no 'true' idea about how it feels.

its a medical fact that depressions a chemical imbalance and with treatment of sorts can be kept under control, however most people suffer from it for life(me included) ,its about knowng urself and learning what things to do to get thro it.

right rant over.

does anyone else who suffers from this get anoyed when people who dont think its such an easy thing to 'get over' as this girl did?

huh.gif

People who come out with this crap do not understand depression.

Working in mental health, she should be able to understand what depression is, even if she cannot personally relate to how it feels.

With that attitude, she should not be working in the area, as she is clearly ignorant to what the clients' she deals with are going through.

Maybe she's a cleaner in a psyciatric hospital!

I'M HUNGRY!

im with someone that suffers with depression and i suffered with depression since my miscarrige in november (although i didnt know what it was till recently)

i can see both sides of this situation, every time he "goes off on one" (as i call it) i tell him strait that the whole world is not against you, but the world doesnt owe you anything either, sitting there dwelling on things only makes you more bitter and twisted, it may sound harsh but some people get pussy footed around way to much and does it really help??????........in his case no it doesnt, because everytime we have the "talk" hes back to the happy cheerfull person that i want to be with, not the person that is repetitive, deep and sometimes nasty.

as for my depression ........as i said it was due to a miscarrige but thats more hormonal more than anything, but still its hard. but i dont bring anyone else down with me, i cope in the way i want and thats to talk to people/doctor and carry on life as normal.

you cant say whatever she has said is wrong on the other board, because everyone handles things differently, and i know that if it wasnt for me telling him to look at his own life and take control of it himself he would be a very lonely man (and very single)

im not saying its wrong lou.

And i can understand u must get upset by his relapses but to be honest being blunt is the worst thing u can do, u gotta support them and let them reach there low so they can come back up.

sadly it usually takes getting to rock bottom to come up.

post natal is an awful thing,it causes suicides etc and break ups

however imagine feeling that shit all the time...

this is depression.. its a black hole, something u cant get out off,

its a very selfish place to be but once ur there u cant help it,u cant help thinking the worlds against you.

its also very hard for partners too, i have empathy with that.

for some people, not all, i know being alone is the best therapy to recovery.

some partners(not u) make people depression worse.

we all ahve diff views but at the end of the day depression is a serious issue,it causes deaths and loses to familys etc,its not something u can just 'get over'

Very true..

I also think alot of Dr's over prescribe drugs to people who are just feeling low or have been told by a 'friend' they need help and endup going to the Dr and persuade them they are depressed

couldnt agree with you more,

i went doctors 2 years ago when i was feeling tired all the time, i was told it was depression, turned out to be borderline diabetes, my mate goes doctors everytime she feels like a week of work because all she has to do is plead feeling low.

i know it is an illness, but one thing i did get told when i seen the councillor was.....you wont be helped until you help yourself........

mine nearly split my relationship up......so did his, but that was because i had kept my mouth shut and walked on egg shells around him, then one day i snapped and said what i felt (in a sensitive kinda way) and hes been a lot better, hes getting help and we are the happiest we have ever been, now if i had carried on nurse maiding him.........sorry, but id have fed him to the cats by now

sometimes it takes someone to see what they are doing to themselfs and to point it out to them.

also agreed.

best way of helping urself is to learn to want to get better, to try and to make an effort to find out what helps.

its hard to love urself too as it makes u feel worthless,

however with support it can be done(and picky good mates) wub.gif
