Is CTW becoming more 'business' instead of 'pleasure' ?

This is a message to James, i have been coming on here for ages (albeit a little gap for a few months) and have seen the site expand nicely and develop. As someone who also runs a 'smaller community online' i understand how everyone feels but have to seriously think about the future of what we do. I have been forced to take on paying advertisers which do help ppl like myself and James pay our Web Server Bills! I also have a day job but the success of these community sites makes us think about taking it on full time and ditching the 9 to 5.

Why shouldnt James do more club promotion and take a full time wage, you can only give so much away when trying to provide all us visitors with so much great content. I have yet to come on a meet-up and meet the CTW Crew. This site can still do what its doing now AND can be run as a business, you get my support and understanding James, do get in touch anytime for a chat! thumbs.gif

cuff me up and ride me like a mad dog from hell !

If we work it then so that Myself & Gilly do the DJs / promotions side of CTW and James & Kev concentrate on the members meetups etc (with an inevitable bit of cross-over) then it will mean everyone is happy.

Although me & gilly are going to be taking the stick like over things such as this!

Sarah, you and Gilly shouldn't be taking stick, it has always been known that part of this site was about organising events, and getting DJ's sorted. It isn't your's or Gilly's (or James') fault that the site has expanded so quickly that the current structure isn't really suitable for everything it is trying to achieve. Anyone gives you guys stick about being succesful at what you do, tell them to take it up with Creamy, or the "Logout" button.

The ida was to get it more organized so there is not too many nights goinng on. 4clubbers got in the rut of being tied to certain clubs, ie Goodgrref, Sundissential PV etc.

EXACTLY!!!!! 4c has gotten to the stage where it seems promoters are only interested in booking 4c events because of the extra numbers it practically guarantees thru the doors, and the easy exposure!!

Its gotten to the stage where you would be forgiven for thinking that the GENERAL CHAT page on 4c forums was actually the official PV/BASE/GOODGREEF/SUNDISSENTIAL forum.... its also one of the reasons I hardly go on anymore as anyone that doesnt attend these nights is pretty much frozen out of the whole website. Dont get me wrong, there are some great people on 4c that I have met (Shan, Guffy, GRH, Ben Kouijzer, Salvador, Jellytot, Yourself etc.), but they are becoming a minority now as the current 'regulars' dont seem to give a [censored] about anyone they dont know frown.gif

Coming soon...

4th March 2006, VALVE SOUNDSYSTEM @ Sheffield Uni with Pendulum, Roni Size, Dillinja, Sub Focus and more!!!

Sarah, I'm going to update the 'About Us / Team' section to reflect all the recent changes.

I could do with a quick bio/background from everyone currently involved to go on this page and then I'll get it up ASAP. It should then be a bit clearer to all of us what everyones roles & responsibilities are.

We shouldnt but we do as we are concerned with the commercial side of it & are often accused of not having our members best interests at heart. frown.gif

correct.

some people may have originally thought "o my god, why is james posting this!?" but the honest truth is when i feel (or know) there is a problem I want it out in the open so we can hear everyones views and concernes. It was basically Kev & SarahPVC who taught me this early last year that gossip and back-stabbing off the board is LETHAL.

I have definitely learnt a few things from this thread and feel we've made progress and at least we are all now 'aware' that there are issues which need ironing out. So long as everyone is honest at all times with each other and we dont let things mount up until someone 'leaves the site' we'll all be happy and we'll all get something out of it ! thumbs.gif

It certainly was a concern as i was fed up of hearing through someone else what someone thought of me. If anyone has any issues or needs anything answering then dont hesitate to email or PM me. I do get round to answering everyones questions eventually.

I think if you go out with you lot regularly it probably feels ok, still about people, but I have to say if you mostly browse ctw, all the ads and promotions and 'mysterious' emails I get for the same clubs at my email address (I dont know how this happened) it feels more like a business.

Signum,

ALL our emails/newsletters go out from the address 'James@ClubTheWorld.uk'

I havent sent an email/newsletter out for about 2 months now as I had problem with the mailing list when I moved it to the new server. Its working again now but we dont want to just sent [censored] out to people (we all get ehough as it is) so i'm talking with sarah/kev as to how to construct a more 'informative' newsletter which is also not just littered with flyers/promos.

I also also dont know how I got on half the email lists out there. Only I have access to the list of CTW subscribers - not even Sarah or Kev - and this list will NEVER EVER EVER be sold or handed to any other sites/promotors etc...

Most of my 'auto-registations' to other peoples' newsletters have been through email-bots scanning the web pages for email addys.. frown.gif

Remember - you can always DEMAND that a site/company tell you where they got your email address from ! I intend to do this myself once I have a bit of time.

sarah ill be coming to the meetings.

james / sarah / other people taking responsibilities, ive seen a post saying kev is designing this and that and it seems that a couple people are genuinly interested in long term CTW help (such as kev and myself) however weve now got diff people doing diff things so instead of going ahead and designing and writing ideas down etc can i get an idea of who is doing wat exactly and wat areas need addressing so i can actively help the site.

I have been a member of CTW now for around 9 months and i think the board has evolved and in the right direction. I would suggest there was some inevitability about "the business vs pleasure" debate when the membership started rising above a couple hundred. I personally feel that the forums cater adequately for both interests and with a little more organisation (Creamy C - spot on)it will continue to be a winner. Ive read all the posts over the last few pages with interest and i think pretty much everyone has made very valid comments which i wholly support. In fact there is enough feedback above (& acceptance of this)to take CTW 100% in the right direction. The guys that put the work into the site to keep this going do a tremendous job and clearly sacrifice alot of their time to do so (very much appreciated by all, i would suggest). A really good debate.... Just wanted to say for my part, i really enjoy what CTW has to offer..

Keep up the good work guys

Dance hard, work less, play tomorrow and sleep the next day

this is the only thing that has pissed me off! i am so sick of getting rubbish in my inbox that im going to take my email address off my profile. i am being bombared with emails from club nights which i havnt asked for. i know this isnt james fault but i do think some nights are taking the piss by doing this.

the only other thing that annoye me a bit was ibiza but i know the reasons why and stuff, it will be better in the long run, i was just annoyed that no one was told.

maybe im being a bit selfish and wanting the board to stay the same as it was 6 months ago. but then i ont want it to go the way garlands has, with no one posting, no up to date info etc.
