the best things to do are:

 

use plenty of lubricant (use ky rather than vaseline as vaseline tends to only lubricate the entrance)

 

have a blast on a bottle of poppers as this will relax your sphincter

 

let your partner gentley [censored] on your hole with their fingers first to help open you up

Grant, I think you're jumping the gun. It's actually quite different than you think!

 

And Claire, I had tried it when I was younger and it hurt - cos I was doing it wrong.

 

The boys above are correct, plenty of lubricant and some easing in is required to enjoy it. Let him use his fingers for a while. If he tries and it hurts, go back to fingers until it doesn't hurt.
