Phrase mostly used by students as a poor excuse for not revising for an examination, with the intention that they would fail one exam so they would be more likely to pass another, whereas the reason is usually because they couldn't be arsed, e.g. "I'm going to go for a tactical fail in the Maths exam so I pass the English"

Had to sit on my own and retake the same day after I'd calmed down

 

I really was goin for it tho - I went absolutely nuts, flipped my desk, tore my paper up and they thought I'd come unhinged.

 

Still makes me laugh when I think about it! Poor sad gullible fools!!
