Smoking!

Any tips on how to give this horrid habit up?? Do the patches really work blah blah?

Yep they do - as I said to you th ether week when I stuck a patch on - I didn't have a fag for hours - but ended up just smoking one through force of habbit :s

 

The patches REALLY do work - well, they did for me !

 

I didn't even crave for one.

 

Give them a go - but get them from your doctors and they will put you on a course of strengths.

Yep Patches do work, I went on them last october and once i got past the first four days i found it quite easy. unfortunatly I went out last week and started smoking again

Aaron, thats encouraging I think I will try the docs, my mate reckons if you tell them you really wanna give up, they will put you on the patches, but you have to attend a smoking meet, bit Like AA i guess!!

Its def worth a go! Didnt have to go to one of those meets tho, I just went to the doctors, you have a chat each time just to see how ur going and to work out what strength of patches to stick u on. they also do a carbon monoxide test each time so u cant have a sneaky fag a few days before and not tell them

wicked, im gonna call them tomorrow then, because I do detest smoking, but so addicted & been doing it for so many years now, trying to give up without aid is impossible!!

Good Luck! I'm gonna give up again after next weekends Shenagians, no point in trying before i'd have no chance!

Lisa, a friend of mine wanted to give up so badly had tried the whole cold turkey bit and failed miserabley. He was goin to go to the docs and get on the patches but someone suggested goin to a hypnotist. He was that desperate that he gave it a go.

 

Paid £50 and has never smoked another fag since, that was a year ago. He said he never had a single craving and doesnt even think about what it used to be like to smoke.

 

I know hypnotism isnt to everyones liking etc, but just thought I would add the option in.

My mum & my step-dad both tried hypnotherapy & it failed miserably, also the thought of being hypnotised freaks me out!!

Is there any point in trying to make someone give up smoking if their heart isn't really in it? My bf smokes billions of unfiltered roll-ups a day, I really don't want to lose him to fucking lung cancer at 35.

I haven't smoked for two and a half weeks now, gave up really slowly by cutting down gradually over a couple of months. I still get cravings but just try to ignore them. I had to give up just because I got to the point where I just couldn't stand smoking, I didn't find it pleasurable, it was just all about the nicotine.

 

I think the only way to give up properly is through willpower. And you have to HATE smoking, if you're heart's not in it then it won't work.
