CTW Moderators Maria Posted April 14, 2003 CTW Moderators Share Posted April 14, 2003 I was about to twat him one. But I was a good girl and acting liek a young lady and not rebellious. Bless me. Will be a while yet b4 i even thinking about putting a CD together. I wana be totally happy as to what i can do first b4 anyone hears a mix from myself. It will take time..im just waiting for it all to fall into place. Im willing to wai for how ever long it takes. Patients is a virtue and all that (sumthing i do not have!). But I wana be as good as poss so that will involve alot of practising! I love it tho. I love everything about learning how to mix. CTW Members TomD Posted April 14, 2003 Author CTW Members Share Posted April 14, 2003 sounds like you're a bit of a perfectionist, like me! i want to get a cd done of the tunes i like at the mo, but it *must* be perfect, even if it's just gonna be me listening to it. someone else mightn't even notice the mistakes but i would. so i could've churned out md after md by now but haven't. mixing with vicious circle tunes is a right laugh. getting the beats right is really easy, and then it's all about bringing basslines in with precision timing and [censored] about with the EQs then playing with the crossfader, slamming it left and right. good fun. all i want now is a good mixer. CTW Moderators Maria Posted April 14, 2003 CTW Moderators Share Posted April 14, 2003 I wana achieve perfection in the long run tom! mixing with the phatest bass lines is wikid. I just LOVE a well hard bass line. I get more of a feel to it and get into it more. I also need a new mixer - im a bit fed up of this one now as it is VERY basic. Citronix - was a package deal. If anything it's the mixers I am more dubious (sp?) about. Getting the hang of them etc, knowing what does what etc But then everything is a learning experience isn't it? And if you dont learn, then i gues you don't get basically! Im finding the hardest tune to mix at the moment Is Glazby "Im your Nightmare". Pisses me off greatly mind, but then I guess it's good in a way coz it gives u the chance to get the beat match perfectly in time with the other record. Concentrating on it more to get it perfect. Coz thats what it's all about aint it - Beat matchin! Its just one hell of a hard one to mix! Well for me anyway! CTW Members TomD Posted April 14, 2003 Author CTW Members Share Posted April 14, 2003 word to that about persistence. but hard house is still proper easy to beatmatch and mix, it really seems to be just all about your tune selection and what other tricks you've got up your sleeve. don't tell anyone, but my trick is that i'm gonna beatbox over the top of my records. "boom-tsk-boom-tsk-ft-ft-ft-ft-ft-brrrrttt...." you just watch. in two year's time they'll all be at it. and definitely agree with you about the hard basslines, having a nice and crisp bassline kick in after 16/32 bars or whatever is soooo good. my mixer isn't exactly budget but it's not great. i have my eye on an allen&heath. *dribble*
CTW Moderators Maria Posted April 14, 2003 CTW Moderators Share Posted April 14, 2003 it really seems to be just all about your tune selection and what other tricks you've got up your sleeve. Yup, ya got it in one. When i do start mixing on the decks i know what tunes to start off with but always seem to have one of the 12" thumpers tunes and "Im yr Nightmare" left sitting on the bed ready to be slapped on the turn table. I just find sum hard to mix. But I guess I just need to turn that concentration switch on in my head and get it together, [censored] how hard it may be, those tunes can be mixed u just gota get it right! don't tell anyone, but my trick is that i'm gonna beatbox over the top of my records. "boom-tsk-boom-tsk-ft-ft-ft-ft-ft-brrrrttt...." you just watch. in two year's time they'll all be at it. Hey no probs yr secret is safe with me! and definitely agree with you about the hard basslines, having a nice and crisp bassline kick in after 16/32 bars or whatever is soooo good. Isn't it [censored] GRRRREAT?!?!?! I really could listen to a phat bitch of a bassline all fuckin day long i could! I just love it! my mixer isn't exactly budget but it's not great. i have my eye on an allen&heath. *dribble* I wouldnt mind a Vestax or a Pioneer one! CTW Members TomD Posted April 14, 2003 Author CTW Members Share Posted April 14, 2003 my mate has the pioneer and it's his precccciouss; he doesn't let anyone touch it unless he's watching right over them! fair play though, because it's a beast of a machine, although you can overuse the effects if you're not careful. i DJd at a charity gig thing for a mate on saturday night and at first they were all like "have you not got anything we know?" (i was playing just some house tunes). nobody really danced to even well-known tunes like Spiller or Modjo, but by the end they were well pissed and there was a group of about six of 'em on the dancefloor; this one guy was screaming "FASTER!!! FASTER!!!" so i pulled out Artemesia and then finished off with The Dawn of course. lol. it was a right laff. what do you listen to when you've not got 12" thumpers on then?! i just stuck Age of Love on... t.u.n.e. CTW Members TomD Posted April 14, 2003 Author CTW Members Share Posted April 14, 2003 the bouncer was coming up and asking me to turn it off because it was just hitting 1am but just as i was thinking, "right, i'll hit the brake," the hoovers came in. well of course then it had to stay on for a good couple of minutes. what about non-HH stuff, what you listen to? i hate to use the word "chillout" because it's a very gay word.
