Police may use lie-detector tests

10.21AM, Fri May 28 2004

Police could be given powers to use lie detectors and satellite tracking to keep tabs on sex offenders released from prison.

They would be asked what they are doing and where they are going each day.

The Government is already tracking by satellite offenders who are released on licence. But Home Secretary David Blunkett wants to change the law to extend it to those given community sentences, focusing on sex offenders and those found guilty of domestic abuse.

Trials have already been carried out and the Home Office says it has proved particularly valuable to probation officers. Mr Blunkett has not decided to go ahead yet but has given a strong indication that he will.

He also intends to make more use of the Violent and Sex Offenders Register.

The single national IT database allows police and probation officers to share the latest information on offenders, including risk assessments.

Tatooing a child molester on the forehead would be a cheaper and far more accurate way to track them.

Or better still paint them blue.

It all seems a bit over the top to me.

I think all sex offenders should be made to wear "paedophile moustaches" like this. baz.gif

Hmm... might be confused with "Evil twin moustaches" though.

so anyway i was wondering what good is this going to do? is it going to stop them doing it? ERRRR NO!!! Just means they know where they are, but doesn't mean it's going to stop them dong it. YET AGAIN our government has failed to see they are not solving the issue at hand which is WHY are they do such things!!!

Better than locking them away for life I suppose.

Not sure you can justify locking someone away for life based on the "what ifs". This in conjunction with rehabilitation may do some good.

Mind you GPS isn't very accurate.

All these peodophiles running round like crazed animals, our poor children cannot venture out of the house any more due to all the old men masturbating behind the garden hedge.

I blame all the bloody immigrants.
