1200-capacity purpose-built venue, best sound system in the capital, good lighting rig, etc. ministry, cream, gatecrasher used to hold residencies there back in the day.

 

only problem is now the union's in £1m debt so it can't afford to put any big nights on, otherwise it could blow the other venues in the city totally out the water.

 

nowadays it's just pissed-up fussy students who constantly request r&b all night long, while i'm actually trying to mix up some decent house music to educate and entertain at the same time. no score to students.

 

i might play [censored] hostile, just for a laugh.

 

i played The Dawn once before and it bombed. nobody recognised it, haha.

it's mostly mainstream stuff, but we never go to Ian Van Dahl or Lasgo or [censored] like that. it's all house - Layo & Bushwacka, Planetfunk, Tim Deluxe, Room 5, Rui Da Silva... that sort of stuff. mainstream house. try and stick the odd tune that people don't know in there... it's difficult but it kind of works. even played a couple of my fav techno tunes one week last term... went down ok!

 

end of the day it's a job, i get paid for it, and i enjoy it (well...most weeks), although it fucks up my weekend because there's loads of decent club nights up here that run on a Friday! grr

i do enjoy it 99% of the time, but some weeks are [censored]. if you get a poor turnout, or get the wrong crowd, they'll only dance to things which have words they can sing along to. every week i still get folk coming up and saying "turn this [censored] off, i want s club" and i just have to politely tell them to [censored] off.
