mp3 is killing the music industry...

hardly.

it's hitting the big record companies hard, forcing them to change their business model which up until now has been a fairly easy licence to print money. small independents, particularly dance labels, i would argue aren't being affected as much, as when you have something as close-knit as the dance community, most people are quite passionate about the music and will go out and buy if they can. having said that, it seems that the stumbling block most of the time (for me, anyway) is actually finding what you want on sale, something which the record companies only have themselves to blame for with bad planning and market research.

if i love a tune, i will still buy it, regardless of whether i have it on mp3 or not.

Agreed, plus most of these tunes if u wanted them as singles ud have to get them on vinyl which means ud have to play them to listen and where i dont have decks any more at the moment due to unavoidable circumstances (ie stolen) then i have no way of playin that media anyway, plus i just wana be able to listen to the tunes when am at my pc or somethin so it wouldnt be possible for me to be on the decks when doin somethin else!! And like Tom said half the time u cant get hold of the tunes u want anyway!!

Anyway, if anyone wants any tune (purely to see what its like before buying of course) then i will send thru MSN when ur on if u let me know!!

1 bonzai...one of the best trance labels out just went bust quoting mp3 as the reason...

FACT>>>>labels are not taking chances on non tried and tested tunes cos sales of big tunes arent paying for the less upfront stuff

2 good to hear it

fair enough like, i didn't know that; that's worrying for the scene as a whole in that case. frown.gif however i do think one thing's for sure - people won't stop producing dance music for a good long while yet and people will always want to get their tunes heard, whether labels come or go. for example, final scratch can really assist in this -- getting tunes from the studio to the club in double-quick time -- but equally it could also prove the downfall of the traditional record label which i think up until now has really been the only way of getting tracks out onto the dancefloors. only time will tell what happens, really.

oh and re: 2... of course! i'm never going to stop buying tunes, i like it far too much. undecided.gif
