noticed a hell of a lot of people who dont notice, no nothing about it or seem to give a fuck recently... esp among the youth..

its disgusting.

same people prolly been moaning about how there has been fuck all on tv today. ignorant pigs.

without those brave men 60 years ago we would not have the freedoms we enjoy today.

Bless them all.

And for you fuckers who are ignorant of what these people did for YOU!....

Take some time out and think about it...

Ignore the ignorant, they aren't worth the time.

couldnt agree more Ian, it seems today, alot of things in history, dont seem to bother or interest alot of people. It'sl ike they adopt the attitude, well, I wasnt there, dont affect me!!

A lot of people from a lot of nations, lost theirs lives & this should be remembered, not just the British, but all that took part thumbsup.gif

some people dont want to remember the day that they lost everyone of there friends & 2 brothers, (this being my grandad), he wont speak about it, never picked up his medals, never mind go back to the place it happened & be reminded for 24 hours on TV,

.... call my grandad ignorant if you will, but hes one of the ones that dont want to see it on every chanel and having a whinge about it scratchy.gif and to be honest i can undertand his reasons.

just because someone complains about whats on TV for a day doesnt mean they dont care, it may mean they have other reasons to complain about it, sometimes its just way to hard to remember what they had lost & what could have been!

just think before you all jump on the bandwagon again and call people ignorant pigs.......we all have our reasons for thinking the way we do!!

That IMO is totally different Lou, this is someone who is not ignorant to it, but is aware of what happened & choses not to remember, because of the pain it causes.

but there are many who are ignorant & oblivious to actually what went on & happened & just shrug it off. Half the kids these days are totally unware of what the likes of our grandparents & their grandparents before went through.

Unfortunatly, what happened back then isnt (to my knowledge) taught in schools, it certainly wasnt when i was at school. The first time i really learnt anything about it was when i first watched Saving Private Ryan when it first came out about 10 years ago, and then did a bit of research on the whole thing.

Sadly this will mean that in 1 or 2 generations time, D-Day will be almost forgotton by everyone.

thats very true Aaron, unless 'ignorant youths' are tought in the curriculem then they will have no idea, its not like kids go out there way to learn stuff out of school.

sundays 'TV coverage' would look just as appealing to kids as songs of praise does to an atheist.....so yes they are going to find it boring.

As the old fella's die, the D-Day landings will slowly slip from popular memory and into history books and other forms of media.

Never forgotten, but the human link with that part of our history will soon be gone.

I also think that most of the old fella's would not want to force anyone to watch their day of remembrance if they didn't want to. After all they fought for freedom.

^ Yeah that.

It's only in the last couple of years I've taken an active interest in WW2 and read up on it. When you look at the scale of the what happened, I find it shocking that I wasn't taught about it at school. I don't understand why it wasn't on the curriculum. D'you reckon it's because of political correctness - e.g. so that we don't grow up thinking all Germans are Nazis or something...?

At the risk of seeming insensitive about recent events, WW2 kinda makes the Iraq conflict look like a joke...

Some of the anti-war lobby (who, in the main, I'm pretty convinced would be anti-war under any circumstances) definitely need to take a history lesson, and think about what would have happened in WW2 if we'd all sat on our arses. "Inaction is a weapon of mass destruction..."
