CTW Members TomD Posted June 2, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted June 2, 2003 i used to use the net to buy train tickets, then found out i generally get cheaper fares by phoning (and i travel on the train long distance quite often, usually once a month). when you're speaking to a human you're more likely to get a helpful suggestion about changing your travelling times/arrangements in order to get a cheaper fare, whereas net-based booking just gives you what you asked for and that's it. give GNER a call on 08457 225 225. they are always helpful when i speak to them, and they sell tickets for anywhere in the country, not just journeys along the east coast main line. CTW Members Bukey Posted June 2, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted June 2, 2003 I use QJump (www.qjump.co.uk) too... For the cheapest tickets, it takes a bit of time, but find out the journey/route that the train takes. Then break it down into sections (this bit takes trial and error to get the best deal). You end up having to buy multiple tickets, but I've saved upwards of 50 quid on journeys before now....
