I am currently having to re-evaluate the hosting company we are using due to increased costs and support issues. If you know of a company who can offer a better price / solution than listed on the below link please let me know via PM or Email as a matter of urgency.

The option we currently have is the Mini Pro ...

Please note the OS, Software & support specifications at the bottom which are all required.

Thanks.

Hi James,

I've not used them for anything other than domain names, but their no frills, tech-minded, low priced approach always impresses me. they've been kicking around for at least 4 years.

have a look into them, they do rack servers from what appears to be 39 quid a month (+ 1 pound per gig per month). you'd get better than what ur gettin at the mo for around 140 a month and u can stick what you like on the server.

they also do co-location if ur into that sort of thing.

Huge thanks for these links Paul. Just goes to show there are lot of rip-off merchants out there charging waaaay too much for hosting/data transfer...

I'm going to see if Bukey can help us out first and provide what we need grin.gif

Powerraq.com are good, great value *but* there are a few things to bear in mind:

- They require payment upfront for the term of the contract.

- They charge setup fee.

- They are UK2.net - they work by box-shifting as opposed to providing a service. I'm not saying they're bad or don't look after their customers at all - it's just that their business drive is to stack 'em high and sell 'em fast. I've heard some very good reports on their service, but this is usually limited to reboots and the SLA. It *Is* actually an un-managed service and so would require someone to manage the box with regards to security updates, etc.

- Their servers are hosted in the UK. This means high bandwidth costs. Hence even the "High Spec" offering only offers 1000 gig of bandwidth transfer a YEAR. Whilst this may cut it at the moment, it might not cut it for some of the ideas that James was discussing on Saturday.

Realistically, your better going with a server in the states. It's a much more competitive market and this is reflected in a high quality of service (from the right companies of course!) and in the prices - as well as the bandwidth offered.

I've currently got two way underused servers, one of which I've only just setup. Hosted in very good datacentres in the States, and with onsite techs in the datacentres if I need reboots, etc. I've got a total of 1150 gig of bandwidth transfer a month. I'm more than welcome to host the site gratis at the moment, and if I ever got to the point where I needed anything, it would only be to cover costs - which I can say are significantly low. But that's not something I envisage needing to do.

i have 1 in australia that offeres even better value and bandwidth - only its a win2k box and i'm not 100% if they do linux boxes. plus not sure if my service is unusualy for the australian market or if it is really competative there as well

Bukey,

Thank you so much for this incredibly useful information and your very kind offer of hosting.

I will chat to you over PM in more detail about this.
