I don't vote because there are no parties that I agree with totally. I don't think any party can be relied on to do what they say. And in general, our political system is crap.

I have been eligible to vote for 13 years, and i think I have voted once.

I think you should have the option to vote for RON, or enter a protest vote as No Suitable Candidate. Then I would vote.

I agree that neglecting to vote does rule you out of the political process, but why should you be forced to vote for something you don't agree with?

There is a point in voting, it stops political parties from becoming too powerful and it also shows just how much people disagree with certain policies. Don't vote and the country may as well be a dictatorship.

I don't do much on this planet, but David Blaine has taught me that I could do less!!

So you are suggesting which should vote for a party who's policies we disagree with, there by giving them a mandate? If there was a party who's policies I agreed with, or the option to do an "abstention" vote, thus registering my opposition, then I would.

With people dithering over whether they want to vote or not, parties like the BNP are getting in. The BNP has a small base of voters, but as the actual number of voters is declining, their votes are becoming even more effective (some party policies aren't helping either, which have influenced peoples votes towards the BNP).

Voter apathy isn't a new thing

"Blair's plea came amid speculation that turnout at the polls on Thursday may be the lowest seen since World War II, with only about 60 percent of Britain's 44.5 million registered voters bothering to cast a ballot."

http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/europe/06/06/uk.poll.02/

Poll predictions of a landslide victory put off voters.

Easier and more modern methods of voting are being looked into.

"Voters didn't turn out in the 2001 election because of polls predicting a landslide victory as well as Labour's failure to keep its promises"

Dom Joly tackles voter apathy

"More young people voted in Big Brother than in the last general election."

http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/story/0,7493,495273,00.html

The Green Party to tackle voter apathy.

"we are the first political party to challenge the existing political and economic theology of globalisation and to instead call for its replacement with an emphasis on local production and economies. Under the Green's policies, beggar-your-neighbour globalisation is replaced by the more cooperative better-your-neighbour localisation."

Political apathy, as opposed to voter apathy.

Adverts launched on Monday aim to encourage the UK's 4.7 million 18 - 24 year old youths "to reconsider the value and power of their vote within a democracy, the importance and relevance to them of local issues and the impact voting can make on their lives".

Google has thousands of hits for voter apathy. Worth a look. Search for Voter Apathy UK.
