I have a problem on my PC cos my internet connection keeps 'freezing'. Had a mate pop over who's a bit in the know and he thought the problem was the fact that my modem and graphics card are both sharing the same IR, interrupt request (11). Unfortunately we couldn't find a way to change this, he tried a method (cant remember what) but the pc wouldn't allow it on either the modem nor the graphics card. If anyone as a answer to this problem would be very grateful!! Cheers

I don't think the IRQ sharing is the problem. Most hardware shares IRQ's. Only in rare instances does it cause a problem, but thats usually straight away.

Don't suppose you could post more info about the hardware and software of your computer. It should become a little clearer with more information available.

I don't do much on this planet, but David Blaine has taught me that I could do less!!

Oops, bit more background- I had to install a new hard drive cos the old one packed up, i did have windows me but have now got 98 second edition. One of my customers this morning said i might have downloaded the incorrect drivers for either the modem or the graphics card?

Capn jack - this problem happened straight away after we installed the new hard drive etc.

Oh another thing, when we first started it up it kept crashing all the time, we traced the problem to a programme running called loadqm, we deleted that and the crashing stopped but have been left with this freezing problem!

Ermm hope thats some help?!?!?!

quiet while you're ahead, save the data you need and format the drive and re-install windows, but before you do this make sure you have all the correct drivers.

If you're not sure what drivers then check the hardware to see if that tells you, if that doesn't then do this. In your system devices you will probably have a few unknown hardware items. take the names down of these.

Now open run from the start menu and open regedit. In reg edit type in the unknown hardware named that was listed. One at time bear in mind. Now this should bring up a list, you'll spot from the hardware name the hardware code. Then using google do a search on it. This 99% will give you the correct driver for the hardware.

Nice simple way of finding your drivers for hardware! grin.gif
