CTW Members Bukey Posted June 25, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted June 25, 2003 To me, sexuality really doesn't matter. As others have said, it's about as important as somebody's hair colour. The thing is, unfortunately, sexuality does still have a bearing in society. Though that has changed an awful lot in the last 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50 years. It's great to find a place like CTW where not only the majority of people couldn't give a toss, but will also speak up and say that they couldn't give a toss. When it comes to gay people saying that they're gay - although you may think it's not necessary, it is at this moment in time. There will be a day where it's not important, where we won't have to say openly that we're gay or straight, and only say really if someone's interested in us... But at this moment in time people do *assume* that you're straight until they're told otherwise. This is rooted in the recent history of society - in the past being told that being gay is wrong (and even today it does happen, albeit thankfully much restricted). This lead to people keeping themselves closeted, and then the "being wrong" also turns to fear of the unknown... A viscious downward spiral that leads to such incidents as the death of Matthew Shepard in the states a few years ago. The real clubbing scene that we are all a part of pretty much already has an integrated community. Believe it or not we are several years ahead of the rest of society. We are the exception, not the rule at this moment in time. We lead the way - and the main stream *is* following, but they are several paces behind us. There will be days where even the gay scene doesn't exist - because every place is a "safe space" no matter what your sexuality... Hope all of this makes sense! I'm sure I could point out one or two gay people that you've met that you don't love. You seem to have this strange idea in your head that gay people are 'cool' just because they are gay. Which is obviously complete shite. CTW Members Mr Moo Posted July 1, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 1, 2003 Im fine with them, unless they are the type of twats that u get in Heaven in London. If they want gay people to be accepted in a community, u dont have to hang around the toilets and act CAMP AS [censored]. Me Tidy_Tart Bukey Urmmmmmmmm Had this conversation on sunday. CTW Members Steph1562626761 Posted July 1, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 1, 2003 Why can't they act camp? If you don't like it, don't look at them. They don't take the piss out of all you straight blokes for acting all big and hard... or attempting to.

I've got no problems with camp people - gay or straight - what does irritate me is when people ACT camp. For a start off, they're not being true to themselves. Mrs_Baddie said: If you don't like it, don't look at them. Trouble is that so many that feel the need to act camp - or act camper than they really are - are drama queens (and I include straight boys that act camper than they are in that statement). Drama queens love attention *and* so it's difficult not to look at them. Mrs_Baddie said: They don't take the piss out of all you straight blokes for acting all big and hard... or attempting to. Ahem! They don't??? Sorry, but I know for a fact they do. Both sides can be just as bad as each other. It pisses me off to see people act camp. It pisses me off to see people act butch. It pisses me off to see people act something they're not. But it really gets my goat when people act it up even more to annoy someone else, and then to see both sides slag each other off. Just be yourselves people, and do your best to get on with everyone else, understand each other and where everyone's coming from - even if you don't necessarily agree with them. CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted July 1, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 1, 2003 Well said Bukey. Yes there are some homophobes out there, but there are some heterophobic gay people as well. Never really got my head around the "camping it up" thing. It seems a bit false to me, like "what have you got to prove?" Camp gays probably give the non-attention-seeking majority a bad name. And yes, as I have already said, I feel exactly the same way about straights who feel the need to act "hard".

I agree with this partially - it's something I have to keep re-iterating because there seems to be a huge blur where the line should be... Some people are camp/effeminate. Fair play to them. I haven't got any problems what so ever with them. Others do act on it on purpose and it isn't them at all. They annoy me, yes. I think it's more to do with the fact that they're not being true to themselves, and so I also do feel sorry for them in many respects. And what about straight guys that act camper than they are too? I'm of a strong opinion that people's sexuality is about as important as their hair colour. Yes, it's a feature of them, but it's not all they are about. Treat everyone equally! CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted July 1, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 1, 2003 Bukey, I totally agree, either I phrased it badly or you've misunderstood me! I was just giving the example that straight people can be camp too! By "camping it up" I meant people who are acting camp to get attention.
