But it seems to me that for someone who has so much experience producing, and getting tracks signed, you know very little about what you can and cant do with your own tunes. I know if it were my tracks i would want to know exactly where i stood. Look mate, personally im not trying to make you look like a knob. But with such a large repertoire of material, surely you can play us a couple of your best unsigned productions! (I promise not to be rude to you like I am to everyone else!) I'm genuinely interested in hearing any material by fellow have-a-go producers, not least someone as experienced as you DJ E. I haven't quite got to the stage where I am happy to post any of my ongoing productions on the web ... the day will come though! It will be great to get some feedback off you guys. Yep fair enough, but surely it would be in his best interest to know. In my experience when one of my tracks got signed, it involved a contract. And on that contract it stated all the legalities. i.e. sending out cds after it'd been signed and putting it up on websites. But like you said, all this only applies to one of his tracks. So what about the others. I am genuinely surprised. Trance is a much bigger scene in Europe. You talk about signing as if it's "either or". Most records are released on a "local" label (say in the UK, Germany, Holland etc) then licensed abroad to the US, Australia, Israel, etc and every other country who is into that scene. As an artist you will get more money by initially releasing the track in a country with a big trance scene, because the royalties are much better for sales of the initial release (usually at least 17% of the sale price to the distributor). You usually get a fraction of the cut when that label licenses it to compilation CDs and foreign labels (typically, you have to 50-50 with your label on the small royalty paid by the third party, say around 15% of the sale price to the distributor, though don't quote me on that figure). CTW DJs DJ Elemental Posted June 24, 2003 Author CTW DJs Share Posted June 24, 2003 are these all completed tunes? i just find it very hard to believe... 5 years... thats 1825 days... 1240 tunes.. since u were 13?????? did you not go to school / go out? / sleep? for five years???? when i make a tune, to get to a point where im even near happy with it takes about a week (the idea/the arrangement/rearrangement/production work/mixdown)... if i have to fit it in around other stuff too, so it usually takes longer... its just when i see you post a list of remixes as long as you did i think where the hell does this guy fit it all in???? you never post any of it up for people to hear, so i have to come to the conclusions its either a)half arsed unfinished rubbish made from downloaded midifiles (so why post about it?) b)a total lie to make yourself look good (i cant believe anyone would be that outrageous) c)all true (why are you not rich? for someone with this much musical output im sure there is a job for you doing this kinda stuff somewhere) sorry m8 but with my experience in this kinda thing some things just seem a bit fishy.. in most of your posts you come out with something regarding what you are doing with you music thing and having read soooooo much but heard so little im left wondering (and at this point i gotta be honest and say it..)... whats the story?? what software do u use? you studio pics look like a guitar shop with a couple of crap keboards... do you use any of that to make your music? if you could please explain because im at a loss.... every choon has a begining, middle and end. you have to remember i was 13 at the point of making some of these choons so the quality etc is very [censored] due basic understanding in recording. how ever my composing of a tune was a good standard cause at that time and up to that time i was taking piano, drum, guitar lessons. im a socal reject if you will, no friends, hardly any family, and fuk all to do down here in the [censored] hole called wales, so i do music. music is my life, not just something to do, its what keeps me going. only up until ermm..i was just bout to turn 15 i started producing music of a reasonable standard and my dad investest in getting the studio equipted with with new equipment and also getting custom computer software developed, as for the guitars my dad is in a band, and i too was in a school punk..ish band. [censored] keyboards, indeedy they are, but thanks to my high quality studio application and some wicked sample cd's i get made for me, my [censored] keyboards can sound like the best on the market. i've acctaully just invested in some new stuff for my studio, technics 1210's pineer DJM-600 cause i wanna learn to DJ, some new keyboards, korg micro korg, Fatar SL880 Pro, Access V Lindigo Redback, korg triton pro and i'll probs get a new PA, new mixer and some rack effects while im at it, why? cause i can. are for lying, no im not, if you think i am, thats your opinion member claires been to my house and see the studio and heard a [censored] load of my work. why am i not rich? you sound like my dad. my dad is always like send your songs off, i dont want to, so he's like send them to a publisher then, i dont want to. again my music is simply my way of expressin my view, emption or opinion. as for school, i acctaully failed school, cause i was making music instead of revising, and inbetween exams i'd go home work on a tune only to end up having it stuck in my head throughout the next exam. as for everyone not hearing any of my work, if i want to share it i will, i sometimes share it with certain people and thats it. Reviews and feedback are always good, but only if i want to make improvements to a tune, i only ever really touch a tune once, and thats when its in its development stage, once its burnt to mp3 thats it, i'll very rarly go back and tamper with it to make improvements. often or not i get bored working on a tune, or i lose the isperation for it and gain new insperation which leads me to making a new track. dont think its just you lot who dont hear my music, the promotional company i work for very rarly hear any of my music yet a remain a solid resident due to what they have heard. as for the long list of remixes which no one has heard, like i said before, i get permission off the orginal artist and no doubt they'll ask for a copy of it, so why post for example my remix of airwaves to be reviewed here, when it could be reviewed by Piet of rank1 after all no one would know more about it than the orginal artist. only reason i have sent the tune out in the states is because it featured my vocalist catherine, and i want to see her get somewhere which is why there was that talk of my starting up a small vocalist agency which would distruibute vocal sample cd's. if it wasn;t for working with catherine, i probally wouldn't of bothered im not arsed if my music gets signed, im not arsed on getting famous and rich, i sit at my crap keyboards and compose music. if u want to see my perform live u can, playing at the waterfront club down here, also at the evolution experience members club, hopfully once a month, possibly a evolution event in manchester, thou none of this is confirmed, bookin prices starts at 440 an hour and im avalible to play anywhere in the UK if i can be arsed to travel. i may sound bitter, i may sound angry, i might sound like a right dick, end of the day do i give a [censored]? um.. no i just can't understand how you all misunderstood my purpose of this post, was only a simple question, i think i will avoid posting in this forum from now on, if i have to right an essay to defend myself agaist so many stabs from so many ppl i'd sooner keep my info to the ppl who understand or give a [censored] Quote http://bos.abavagada.net/oddfiles/djelementalonline.jpg Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

(with no second opinion, especially from people who are into the sort of music you make, how will you ever better yourself?). the people who have made the tune you have covered would prolly just tell you to go and write something original and send it to the record label 3>with all the artwork youve had done and your big post about how much money you are gonna be making i find that unbelievable... 4>if you cant handle a few questions... you best do im just trying to figure you out... cos as i said i had no idea where you were coming from.. if i wrote something seemingly unbelievable.. id expect to get grilled about it too... dont get in a hump Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
