there's a list of well-known producers/engineers that use Fruity

Two more that I can name at the top of my head is:

Dark By Design / Gaz West (Goodgreef, Tidy, Nukleuz, Hotwax, Overdose, Phantom Trax, Bang, Synthetix etc)

Technikal / Alf Bamford / Solar Scape / Cloud Nine (Nukleuz, Diffuse, Execute, Bulletproof, Dynamix, Pitch Control etc)

one thing i have always rated the fruity synth at, is creating the Rank 1 synth sound. the original is a JP800 i believe.

the reason a lot of tracks sound 'fruity' i believe is just down to a lack of production know-how.

you can achieve anything you like in fruity to a top notch standard. i just personally dont like how the prog works.

the only prog i hate with a vengeance is Reason. What a pile of arse that prog is.

my most hated quote by reason users is...'ooh ooh... but if you rewire it into cubase, you can ...blah blah'

WHY DONT YOU JUST FOOKIN USE CUBASE THEN!!!!! mad.gif

LOL

lol, yea the original pads were made on the Roland JP8000, which yet again doesn't have anythign to do with the sequener you use.

I made mine on the Pro-53, which is the VST emulation of the classic Prophet synth.

Reason is good...but yea the fact that it doesn't have VST support is very limiting. But if you know what you're doing you can program pretty much any sound (or close to it) on those two built-in synths anyway...

But I do get your point about re-wiring it etc...

Reason...

i want a compressor on the kick drum....

right...lets have a look round the back, disconnect the 'virtual cables' put them where i think i should be putting it...

oh no, my eyes have gone googly just looking at it and ive gotta reload the prog to get it back how i had it b4....lol

the most awful interface EVER. the sequencer section is truly awful to use too.

looks pretty tho rolleyes.gif

What is your mats name is he a big shot producer? No? rolleyes.gif
...
Reason is the biggest selling music sequencer out there and is professionally recognised as the industry standard all in one virtual studio.
...
on a professional level Fruity really is not recognised, cos it's basic as fuck.

Ian:

Agreed. I absolutely loathe programs like Reason that try too hard to be like hardware. Invariably you end up with a program with all the worst things about software combined with all the worst things about hardware. I like my software to feel like software and my hardware to feel like hardware, thanks!

LTM:

Reason = "industry standard"? WTF? The industry standard programs are Pro Tools, Logic and Cubase.

Re "big shot producers": I'm not going to stoop to name-dropping, besides I freely admit most people would just say "who the f*** is he...?" I never said he is a big shot, but he's in the industry, has released some good tunes, has seen his tracks on respected compilations such as Global Underground, has done remixes for other labels, etc etc.

He has his own label which has been around for about 4 years now, and many of the artists on his label also use Fruity.

Don't be a competitive dick and try to second-guess whether my mate is famous or a "nobody" -- that has fuck all to do with whether you can or can't make good tunes with Fruity.

Re "not recognised" on a professional level ... WTF are you talking about? Either you can write good tunes using a given product, or you can't. I know some people (again through my mate) who have written music using far more obscure programs than Fruity. Some people have written quality tunes using Atari-style trackers. Some people have written quality tunes using obscure programmable software synthesisers which you'd have to be a rocket scientist to understand. IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER what the "industry standard" is.

Okay, if you went on a music production course, they probably won't teach you Fruity. So what?

People CAN write good tunes on Fruity - yes I personally agree it is harder work than with Cubase - but you CAN. Your entire argument is based on the following precepts:

1. YOU don't know anyone who writes quality tunes with Fruity;

2. you have heard lots of shit come out of Fruity.

It's not hard to see the flaws in your reasoning!

i think LTM is trying too hard to find flaws in fruity tracks so his finding them.

i reckon if we gave him 3 tracks and didnt tell him which ones were and which ones were not made in fruity, he wouldnt beable to spot the fruity tracks correctly. (a bit like that 'faking it' program lol.gif )

I think its partly down to the amount of 'guyver clone' producers out there though - a lot of people using fruityloops for hard trance simply try to copy the sounds and ideas that guy has used previously which is probably what makes it seem as though everything has a 'fruity sound'??

Considering how 'basic' it looks compared to cubase etc. fruityloops is suprisingly effective when used properly... pretty much like everything to do with music - you could have the best hardware equipment in the world, but if you dont know how to use it properly, it wont make a difference to not having it...

Coming soon...

4th March 2006, VALVE SOUNDSYSTEM @ Sheffield Uni with Pendulum, Roni Size, Dillinja, Sub Focus and more!!!

not quite true, you can add any effects to any of the rack instrument without going round the back. fair enough i only load one sound into the drum machine as multiple drum machines don't suck up your cpu power, but i've never had to go round the back at all. the re-wiring at the back is for if you don't like the 'programmed' connections. multiple effects to a rack instrument i'm not sure on as i've not got that far.

* that is based on what i know at the moment but i've only been using it a short time so a 'seasoned' user may say different wink.gif *

** i'm not entering the which is better as i believe you should work with what you feel comfortable with. i'm damn sure anyone who knows what they are doing on their chosen favourite program will be able to produce quality tracks **

spot on mate wink.gif

I'm more than capable of using all the well known sequenceer's out there, i.e. ProTools, Logic, Cubase, Cakewalk, Acid, Fruity, Reason etc. Because I've worked on them all and have produced tracks on them all, I know the pro's/con's of each pretty well. I just prefer Fruity at the end of the day, because I like it's streamlined interface...that's just personal preference. But when I'm engineering a track for someone, and they feel more comfortable with ProTools, Logic or Cubase then I have no problem switching to that for the day.

Mr.Happy : I suggest you try out Logic, Cubase, ProTools etc. for urself against Fruity. then take the one which you feel most comfortable with.

not all of us have the technical knowhow...i havent got a clue with alot of the things i try to do. books and tutorials are the only way i'm going to learn and by playing around. it still seems like a minefield but it's like anything, use it often enough and things sink in. i don't delude myself into thinking i'm going to have a tune done soon, im just enjoying having a go smile.gif
