and i doubt there'll be a similar posthumous obsession with, say, for example, any of the members of Kraftwerk after they've popped their clogs.

It was on this day 2nd July, 5 years ago that the late, great Tony De Vit passed away, god rest your soul Tony, you were and always will be a god among men!

Tony de Vit has been my idol and inspiration since 1995. He had this special way of being able to make each individual clubber feel like he was playing the tracks especially for them, causing a chain reaction and turning the atmosphere into raw electricity. It was almost like you could see it, touch it! He was no pigeonhole DJ, breaking down boundaries between all types of dance music, fusing and mutating like some kind of power-crazed scientist. Taunting them and taking them one level further until they were literally begging and screaming for more, then just when they thought storm had turned, in streams the crescendo and suddenly it all makes sense — this guy behind the decks is playing tough, he’s telling a story and he’s playing straight from the heart, and this was what made Tony stand out in my eyes. I’ve lived by these values since the first day I put record to platter, and I have made a solemn promise to myself that I always will.

i cant really comment on TDV as i wasnt into hardhouse when he was around, but going by the legacy his left behind i'm left scratching me head wondering what all the fuss is about

sure his done some good work, but theres been productions to the same standard and above. and i meen LOT of productions.

sure his carved a genre, but u cant really argue harddance to be the most creative intellegence music out there. its just mindless beats for the energetic.

if TDV had died 3 years later i'm sure that he wouldnt have been harolded the hero he is now as people would have gotten baord of him and called him a sell out as he was pushing dance music into the charts. had he died 3 years earlyer no 1 would ahve heard of him. he just died at a lucky time (if there is such a thing) for his legacy

i'm not saying he wasnt a good DJ or nowt, as obviously i have no room to comment there. just think all this TDV is overrated commertial hype generated to get baord hardhouse clubbers into already rammed clubs

one of my mates met and spoke to tony de vit and he reckoned he was one of the rudest, up his own arse wankers he had ever met (i distictly remember him laughing when he heard the news)

Are you sure he actually met TDV and isnt bullshitting you?? That comment, regardless of how you perceive his productions and career, is sheer bollocks.... I personally have never met him (Largely due to my age!), but I remember speaking to Ian M + Pete Wardman about him and neither could praise him enough for his character - its what made him so great!

Also, look at the Fergie scenario - if TdV was up his own arse, would he really bother to go through all the trouble of brining someone over from another country, and helping them to break into a profession of something they loved so much...??

Hooj Tunes went in the right direction!)

That makes no sense at all.... You praise Red Jerry for being great, yet Prolekult was his label and it was he who commissioned the remixes.... confused.gif

AAAANNNNNNDDDDD.....De Vit never remixed, nor produced anything on prolekult... although he had several hugely successful remixes of the Hooj label!

Speaking of Prolekult tho.... Wippenburg 'Neurodancer' is a [censored] TUNE!

1>hooj / prolekult .. (i dont wanna get into sniping about exactly who di what on each of the labels, suffice to say that a lot of good tunes had [censored] remixes done of them)

i was generalising cos he was one of the dj's at the time who was playing all the [censored] remixes..

2>its hard to judge a person on one meeting agreed, but he said tdv refused to shake his hand, and was really stuck up... he had no reason to make it up or lie

Nor do people who say 'Fergies [censored]' and then admit to having never seen him live....

i have noticed that there seems to be 2 schools of poeple that rant on about tdv:

1) people too young to have been clubbing when tdv was alive

2) promoters

i personally just think hes a loada fuss over nothing...

tdv - global underground - tel aviv??? what a pile of [censored]

he wrote some so-so tunes of his own and ruined a load of old german trance records with his remixes..(thats his only legacy i can see thats still present in the scene today)

Marmion 'shoeneberg'....leave it alone!!

i remember this label prolekult starting up, years ago and me and my mates were dead chuffed cos they started licensing german trance records that were realy hard to get hold of over here... but they just has all these [censored] remixes by tdv and baby doc, john the dentist on them...the only decent mixes were by red jerry (who in my eyes gets much more respect for all he has done since!!! Hooj Tunes went in the right direction!)

I remember this new style being called Hardbag (as opposed to all the Handbag (nightcrawlers and all that [censored], that was around about the same time), and being played in only gay clubs at the time....

it was fooking lame... still is... i cant understand where all this god worship comes from, cos in my eyes the bloke didnt really do anything special... hes just one of the only british 'superstar' djs who has died....

imagine if someone like sasha, digweed or pete tong died..

then you might have someone with some kinda legacy worth shouting about... but tdv??? think not

his family must be skint or something... time to fleece the younguns who have no idea.... if tony had anything about him i personally believe he would be turning in his grave at the scene 'he created(???)' laugh.gif

This is utter bollox and when i read this it makes me upset tony de vit was such a lovely man down to earth and kind hearted iv spoke to him on several occations i seen every set he did at ark (leeds uni) the last ever ark he played an amazing set and that was the last time i saw him this man is a legend and i was invited to his on many occations after ark!

long live tdv notworthy.gif

REST IN PEACE LOVE YA XXXXX

Cud it be that he wasnt as popular as de vit??

Johnny was a [censored] amazing producer, and a great DJ, yet he was waaaay too underground for the likes of Tidy to put on memorial services for him!!

Dont forget, TDV remixed the likes of Louise, Ant n Dec, East 17, The Shamen, North n South and many other commercial acts which just shows how popular he was!!!!!
