CTW Members Bukey Posted July 8, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 8, 2003 Alrighty then... Here goes... The usual disclaimer: I don't slag off, but I do offer an honest opinion - and that is a brutally honest one that I stand behind 100%, even if it does hurt. I never mean to offend, but will give constructive criticism that will hopefully be of use. - On a 1024 x 768 res display (which is now prolly the defacto standard), the grey space on the right hand side looks out of place and isn't easy on the eyes. Make it a different colour from where the header ends to the page border on the right hand side of the screen - but keep the grey directly below the menubar. Even if it's just a lighter shade of grey, change it. This will also draw the eyes to the main content, not the empty space. - The left hand "blocks" (login, menu) are too wide. The text fields for users to login finish much, much before the space allocated for them. The menu titles are all short too, so too much space has been allocated to the blocks. Just make them narrower. - The menu links in the "blocks" would look better left justified, rather than centred. Nothing else in the blokcs are centred, and so it moves away from the style of the rest of the pages. - The graphic used for the search link isn't clear - although snazzy looking, it doesn't jump out and make it obvious what it's there for. - The menubar at the top of the page looks good, but only if you've got good eyesight! Maybe change the colour used for the font embedding... Or make it bolder - just so the text stands out. - Same as for the menubar should be taken for buttons. - Theres a few glitches with table spacing/cell spacing - some places there's too much space left (such as on the home page, the left hand side of the welcome panel - there's too much space next to the body of the text). - The header - looks good, but it is hard to read "for the harder generation of clubbers." Also consider putting something (even if it's an advertising button) over the grey space at the top left - maybe not to cover the whole area, but again, this space looks "lost." Having space isn't a bad thing, but it shouldn't look lost or lonely. - Overall, I like the design. It's still a work in progress, but it is coming together. The overall colour scheme isn't harsh, looks appealing. There are clean lines, and good, antialiased images (such as the >>> images). Keep up the good work! Take it u do web design then? Thanx for the constructive criticsm I do a bit of web design, but not loads.... Have in the past, but am more of a consultant - and do more server side. Not too many people are left on 800 x 600 to be honest with you, but it is good if you try to cater for them. The grey there isn't so much of a problem, but would be better being a different colour - at the minute it "merges" with the rest of the page. Change it so it doesn't, and make the actual content on the page stand out. HTH!
