CTW Moderators Maria Posted July 23, 2003 CTW Moderators Share Posted July 23, 2003 To travel from Swansea to London Paddington - 2 trains available - one at 3.00pm or one at 4.00pm (for me to arrive at 7pm at the latest) - If I go at 3pm - it will cost me £23 (to which I have booked that train), If I go at 4pm, it will cost £35. That's a bit [censored] aint it ?! Quote ClubTheWorld.com's OFFICIAL Events Reviewer

CTW Members Tara Posted July 23, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 23, 2003 Yeah its so stupid that fares have to increase so much at peak times, [censored] annoying.
CTW Members Ginge Posted July 23, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 23, 2003 Just lie about your destination. Get on the train and if a ticket blokey gets on, just tell him you got on at the last stop and where you're going. Thats what I did when I was coming back from going to see Chell. The fare up to Northwich cost me about £60 from Northampton, but on the way back I only spent £14. I got on the train from Northwich intending to get off at Crewe (total fare of £2.90) but realised it went all the way to Birmingham so I got off there and just paid the fare from Birmingham to Northampton (£11.10). All you gotta do is LIE...its not hard.
CTW Moderators Maria Posted July 23, 2003 Author CTW Moderators Share Posted July 23, 2003 I don't like to lie tho. Anyway, it's only money. Its just the fact that the increase is pretty steep just for ONE hour difference ! Quote ClubTheWorld.com's OFFICIAL Events Reviewer

CTW Members Bukey Posted July 23, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted July 23, 2003 If you find out the route of the train and spend a bit of time, you can cut the fair usually in more than half by breaking down the stages and buying separate tickets.... Had to do it for my bro once for a long distance haul... Cut his fair from more than £70 to just over £20.... But be warned, getting caught in the "Centro" area without a ticket where the station was open (running late and not having time doesn't matter) will get you a fine of "standard fare" - I think it's £20... But that will only cover you within the Centro region. As soon as the train leaves the Centro region, they can fine you/charge you again. Except if you're a young lady that the ticket bloke fancies. Then you get let off. *Or* if you're an older person. If you're a yong lady that the ticket bloke doesn't fancy, you've got a 50/50 chance of being done. If you're a bloke under about 40, you're busted. Over 40, but not old, again you've a 50/50 chance. I always have tickets, but once had a huge stand up row in the middle of a carriage with an inspector after they let of a 20-ish gal one morning, same guy let off an old man the next day, but done a lad in his 20s. He wanted me to get off the train at the next station... Until I pointed out what I was intending on reporting him for discrimination... He shut up, and sold a normal price ticket to the guy he was going to do.
