CTW DJs Tony P Posted August 18, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted August 18, 2003 Saw an interesting thread on harderfaster about using the pitch whilst in the mix instead of touching the vinyl etc. I've been getting to grips with this method over the last year or so, but just wondered what are your thoughts on this guys. And what way do you use to mix your tunes?

CTW DJs LittleMissLoud Posted August 18, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted August 18, 2003 I read this too on HF, but in some ways I disagree. If you have mastered the technique to a T, then yeah, it's perfect, but sometimes it is quicker to get the mix back on with a delicate touch. I say this, because I've seen some DJ's that mix using the pitch take quite a while to correct the speed, the result being the record being out for a longer time than it would have been if they had made a very slight amendment manually. Just my tuppence worth peeps!! Quote I'M HUNGRY!

CTW DJs LittleMissLoud Posted August 18, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted August 18, 2003 Don't get me wrong, I try to pitch mix where possible, and I think if you've mastered it properly then great, but I just think it's sometimes more effective to touch - although very lightly of course! I find pitch mixing more effective for when you can hear something WILL go out, before it actualy does if you know what I mean! Quote I'M HUNGRY! The idea is to use lots of small adjustments rather then one big adjustment when it is out of time - that way it gives the mix a smoother feel to it..... the only downside is that the dj (well, it is the case with me anyway!) spends 90% of the time in mix with one hand on the pitch slider - I would say that over a 2min mix I would make about 20-30 tiny adjustments if I wanted to acheive what I would call a 'perfect mix'..... CTW Reviewers Wub Wub Posted August 18, 2003 CTW Reviewers Share Posted August 18, 2003 Pitch mixing does make it a lot easier to keep a mix in, and I often find that once inebriated, I have trouble using delicate touches on vinyl anyway. CTW DJs Tony P Posted August 18, 2003 Author CTW DJs Share Posted August 18, 2003 yep agree with all above points, guess it's really down to how much you are trying to correct whilst in the mix.
CTW DJs LittleMissLoud Posted August 18, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted August 18, 2003 Indeed - it's best to get the mix as near to perfect BEFORE bringing it in! Quote I'M HUNGRY!
