I don't think the idea was to actually call it the "spam" forum...?!!

 

But it's the same difference - it would be a forum for people to promote their own events, or events which they are personally tied to (be it for money or whatever). I.e. shameless publicity.

2. as i keep saying this is a community of members, not just some massive listings mag

3. i am asking for club adverts (from promoters) to be separated from suggestions (made by members for potential meet-ups)

perhaps there should be a limit on posting events? you can't post an event until you have 100 posts (i just picked that arbitrarily).

I think I stated originally that perhaps we should only allow people to post an event when they have made 10 non-event posts. Problem is its all too manual for the mods to check this, it needs to be automated. Also, sometimes someone registers, posts a good intro about themselv and an event in their first post. Also, sometimes they may only post an event but its one the members didnt know about / wanted to know about.

 

All the events will come OUT of the forums at some point in either case so it wont be an issue. The forums will then be used for what they are meant to be used for, chatting.

I think this site is not too bad for spam & all the forums work well, yeh you have the occasional person pop it in the wrong place but IMO this will always happen, either deliberately or by mistake, why change things when they seem to be working eh??

The distinction is between suggesting an event and promoting yourself (or an event you are affiliated with, therefore your opinion of the event is biased).

 

I'm not sure if counting people's posts is meaningful. There are some people on here who seem to feel the need to put a pointless "I was here" style comment at the end of every thread (LOL / smiley / insult / whatever).

 

Hence I think reinstating the "promote yourself" forum is the best idea.

 

This is still good from the perspective that, those members who do actually post elsewhere, are more likely to get their "promote yourself" thread looked at, since people will actually recognise their names!
