erm - if he's reformatting his HDD then he'll ahve to make sure his reformatting it as FAT32 (windows 98 filesystem) not NTFS (which XP prefers)

Why would he want to go back to 98 anyways???? And why did he do an upgrade?

Unless his PC really isn't up to running XP, he should do a fresh installation of XP, and format during setup.

Hope that helps!

With XP I have a stable and recoverable OS, none of the other Microsoft efforts have afforded me such luxuries. thumbs.gif

Although I would recomend installing XP on a freshly formated HDD.

I don't do much on this planet, but David Blaine has taught me that I could do less!!

XP is built on NT technology. ALL of microsofts NT systems are stable (by microsofts standards) because they were build in partnership with OS2 (forget the company behind that operating system)

going back even further - MS-DOS is stable, but then that wasnt programmed by miscrosoft either, just braught out by em.

but ne way - my point still stands thumbs.gif

he wants to downgrade to 98 again because his modem wont work on XP or something - it cannoy find the drives - i have the same problem with my studio computer - so i was lazy and shared the net connection from this computer via the network.

is there away of getting his modem to work, rather than him degrading down to 98? shrug.gif
