To be honest i don't particularly like those words either, but thats not what we were talking about. There all lame words, i don't feel the need to use them in every sentence but some people obviously do. There's nothing i can do about that, but it doesn't mean i can't show my dislike for them.

Your argument is circular. Language is not static; rather it evolves continuously. If everyone abused the word "cunt" as a matter of course, then it really would lose its edge. Similarly if no-one ever used the f-word except when they were really angry, then it would become the "worst" swear word.

 

Unfortunately people in small cliques sometimes forget that language is culturally-dependent; i.e. just because they and all their mates use the c-word without being offended, they assume that the word is therefore not offensive. Wrong, it is to the wider world.

 

In exactly the same way, I feel uncomfortable if someone misuses the word "Jesus" in front of a friend who I know is religious (even though "it's just a word" and I know they aren't intentionally disrespecting Christianity).

Who ?

 

Whoever thinks the word is cunt. Its not cunt. Cunt is a word that origionated from the term Count. Someone mistakenly missed out the 'u' and thought it looked funny. A Cunt was then born. Thousands more thereafter.

No need to get so upset, i was only playing around. I don't think it's pathetic for a person to be offended by a word in the slightest. What I do find a little on the annoying side, even pathetic, is when people who don't know me, can't tell what I'm like from a message board, and judge the tone of my posts to be entirely serious, comes on and replies being completely patronising and stroppy.

For crying out loud, just read some of the other posts I've put and you'll see that I am taking the piss - I'm not enough of a cunt to think that people don't ever get offended by some words or whatever.

If you 'choose' to be offended by a word then that is your choice. But perhaps that is 'your' problem and not anyone elses. Do you see what I'm getting at?
