CTW Members Mr Happy Posted November 29, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted November 29, 2003 some fairly simular questions: 1) where do you pull your ideas from? 2) when are you at your most creative? 3) what are your influences? 1 its hard to say where i get my ideas from, its definatly when i'm relaxed. some thing will happen (a noice of a door shutting or something someone says, etc) and it will trigger a thought "maybe if i wrote a tune that went like x" 2 i find i'm at my most creative when i'm walking around (usually either home from or to work) with my discman on. 3 i'm not really sure i have any influences any more. i used to be influenced alot by 'chris lieberator', karim and glazby in my mixing style, but now i have my own style and just do what comes natrually. if i did have an influence, it might be phil benson as his given me some fantastic advice thats really pulled my mixing along 10fold Quote Mr Happy's fishy fish MangaFish munch munch MSN & e-mail - mangafish@mangafish.net AOL - MangaMorgan Online mixes - http://www.mangafish.net/mixes/
CTW DJs DJ Elemental Posted November 29, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted November 29, 2003 Good questions matey 1 again its hard to define my ideas down to a single source as i find there are often more than one thing which set the 'mood' in which i will write in. I find that all my emotions and feelings are expressed 110% into my music - so the genre compleatly depends on the mood im in - i find it hard to sit down and say right, im going to make a trance track today - cause i might not been in the right mood. 2 im creative pretty much all the time - theres been very few occasions where i've gone in the studio and been able to write anything. 3 recently Lab4 - Yoji Biomehanika have been my main influence but thats because im trying to write a specific type of music, else like my happy i have my own style and my own way of playing so i tend to just go with the flow Quote http://bos.abavagada.net/oddfiles/djelementalonline.jpg
CTW Members BenRW Posted November 29, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted November 29, 2003 i haven't started producning yet but have plans to in the very near future. However for past year i have been noting down ideas. These have mainly been from: walking back from uni with MP3 player on walking back from uni on my own trying to sleep at night but cant (i now keep a notepad by my bed just in case) Listening to a tune randomly and getting inspiration (either to remix it in certain style or to steal an idea. Half the time i lose my ideas as i fail to write them down b4 i forget them. Have about 20 original ideas for track names and about 15 ideas for tracks/vocals for tracks. Haven't written down ne in ages tho Quote I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse. Ideas for what? Mixing? Style? Tricks? Its a very open question 2) when are you at your most creative? Usually when I'm happy and content with myself, which means I'm nice and relaxed and can therefore 'feel the vibe' I'm creating whilst mixing. 3) what are your influences? When I'm playing out it's definitely the crowd and its vibe. At home it's my moods mainly, I've reached the point where I definitely have my style although I don't think I've played to my full potential in quite a while. DJing is an expression of how I feel, not just something I do. Quote www.djphilbenson.co.uk - updated 28/08/

I nick them all! Er no, I just get ideas from the tunes I buy (across all genres), & mucking around with my synth, and dropping samples onto Fruityloops. 2. After going clubbing! There's nothing like a night of hearing new music, to fill me with ideas for tuneage! 3. Every [good] record I've ever heard or bought! Usually tunes I've heard clubbing, but have no idea what they are.

CTW Members DJam Posted December 1, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted December 1, 2003 1) where do you pull your ideas from? I get them from what I see and what I hear. When I spin and make sets, I try to draw upon the scene that I hear that specific sound. When I do house, I try to sound like the South Side Black clubs. When I do trance, I try to sound like my fave DJs playing at Vision. You get the idea. 2) when are you at your most creative? Late at night. Something will hit me at 10 PM and I'll be at it til 3 or 4 AM. It gets harder when you have a job and have to "put it on hold" til a more normal time. 3) what are your influences? Everyone I hear. A lot of times I will go to the club and hear a guest DJ...and I will come home with ideas on how to do things differently. Some of the bigger influences in my life have been Derrick May, Charles Feelgood, Derrick Carter, Tiesto, and Ferry Corsten. I also gained a LOT of inspiration from Orbital. I wear headlights like theirs as a tribue to them. NEW MIX: It's Traaaaance-Tastic! - Play | Download (Windows Media)
