doing the job right, or doing what your boss wants?

Depends what you're after ...

1) Short-term cash (i.e. you NEED the money) - do what the boss wants

2) Long-term career - do things the right way regardless of what your stupid boss asks - if you get the sack it will look great at the next interview... "Q. Why did you leave? A. I got sacked because I wanted to change things and do things properly"

2) for me all the time smile.gif

The thing is the boss should be wanting the job done right for the best interests of the company and its customers.

So working for the boss should be all about doing the job right!

If you have a good boss who cares about their job, they should always point you in the right direction in order to do your job better!!

at the moment (ie, job, now) it's "do what my boss wants, making sure the result is good enough/can't be traced back to me if wrong"

my companies motto includes "first time" - doesn't say anything about actually getting it right shrug.gifrolly.gif

when i started in this 'position' 5 monthd ago, 'doing it right' WAS my top priority. now, seeing the way things actually happen, it's clear hardly anyone actually gives a [censored], so I'm bugger'd if I'm gonna go the extra mile (i once pointed out a sticker was on wonky, i got told to "shut the [censored] up" by the stickerer and no-one else paid any attention. shrug.giftosser.gif. actually i've been told he got the sack today scratchchin.gif

What your boss wants ... at the end of the day it is the boss that employs you, if you don't do it their way, then more than likely you won't have a job to do right or wrong, I don't think in a further interview saying "I got sacked because I wanted to change things and do things properly" will go down that well to be honest.

I lot of times its just best to keep your head down and get on with it.

Your only there for the money after all and you can always look for a new job in the meantime.

There are soe employees that are better than their boss !

When I worked in NTL, I had to do something to solve some problem. My boss demanded I did it his way, to which I told him it wouldn't solve the problem and so wanted to do it my way. The RIGHT way.

I did it his way. It failed I did it my way. TA-DA.

i spose as long as its putting no-ones life/property at risk EG....by making dodgy goods because its quicker and there are deadlines to meet, then there realy shouldnt be a problem when it comes to working to your bosses rule.
