Why is it rude to lick your knife?

I never fully understood that one...

 

is it just coz it's a little dangerous so that's been converted into being rude to stop u doing it?

 

anyone else's thoughts?

most table manners and other rules come about due to common sense that children would not know about at a very early age as their knives aren't particularly sharp

 

let them lick a steak knife and say goodbye to their tongue
