The effervescent UK hard dance scene has seen many changes over the last few months. Different sub-genres of the overall genre have grown out of nowhere and many have continued to flourish.

One predominant factor seems to be a key issue within these sweeping changes though – and that is the level of intelligence and forward thinking injected into the scene.

With this in mind, take time to witness the birth of ‘Shroom Recordings’.

With overall control of the label (and as its owner and head of A&R), Sam Townend’s ethos behind the label is one that firmly follows the ‘forward thinking’ nature of the scene.

On the commencement of the label, Sam comments : “…we will be focusing on releasing ‘tek’ orientated material…think hard dance music that has groove so you can shake your ass to it and dance without looking like your having a fit, and you have what Shroom is all about.....”

Shr01: RELEASE DATE OCTOBER 04

SAM TOWNEND & ALEX CALVER

A - GET UP

The first release sees Sam team up with ‘man of the moment’ Alex Calver. After there debut collaboration on Tripoli Trax and staying in line with the belief behind the label, the A side is a tough tech-crossover groover with catchy vocals and a deep sub bassline that drops into one hell of a powerful riff after the break. Entitled “Get Up”, it has already taken the roof off for the likes of Sam himself, BK, Ed real, Phil Reynolds, Ilogik, Alex Calver, Nik Denton, DJGRH, Ben Stevens and Chris Impact on their outings.

AA- PERVERT

Chunky and funky percussion forms the perfect setting for a bassline that oozes groove, complimented by familiar vocals ‘I see you baby, shakin’ that ass’ which sit superbly on top to form an overall crossover track that will please more than the hard dance buying public. Great support again from Sam himself, BK, Andy Farley, Ed Real, Andy Whitby, Simon Eve, Shan, Ali Wilson, DJ GRH and Alex Calver.

Charted at no.8 by BK in the August edition of mix mag

“……A future brighter than a brigade of San Antonio lobsters beckons, a great start to a label that promises much……” - Mix Mag

“……’Pervert’ will simply blow you off your feet with its infectious, funky ass groove……” – 5/5 – DJ mag

“……this is a welcome change from other, more soulless, examples of this genre. Top stuff!..... “ - 24/7 mag

- Keep On Pushin’

With the ever growing use of CDR amongst the dance music industry, Shroom recording’s feels it necessary to make an exclusive collection of music available to DJ’s (and music enthusiasts) that is easier and cheaper to obtain than vinyl releases.

To compliment every release on vinyl, Shroom will be putting out a series of .5 releases that will only be available exclusively on the mp3 download site www.trackitdown.net.

The first .5 release sees label boss Sam Townend team up with Chris Impact to produce a tough techno / hard dance crossover track.

funky bass lines with chunky percussion and a catchy vocal combine together to form what can only be described as a hard dance work out (think Jane Fonda with attitude!!!)

“…Sam and chris both show why they are widely tipped as ones to look out for in 2005, deep and meaningfull hardhouse, more like this please!!!...” – Marc Johnson

A funky ass bassline & quality vocal drives the track along nicely. Winner! ...”
