CTW Members smittenkitten288 Posted November 10, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted November 10, 2004 Ive been to Vegas three times and Mark and I are going in March again. Clubbing in Vegas not up there as the most publicised of stuff. There is a club in the Luxor Hotel called RA. Now I aint been in there but last time I went they were advertising a few big events/names and Ive seen it quite a lot on the box. The general social scene is very different over there to here though - there are a few clubs just off the strip but you will have to search them out. There are always loads of people handing out flyers (and porn) so sure you will find something. I am sure there is one just set back off the strip behind the Aladdin Casino -cant remember name but did see it on the TV. As for LA, again been there but not clubbing but West Hollywood probably best bet. Was years ago and probably changed a bit. Will put my thinking head on though and if I can remember any names/locations will post. Have a fab time - Vegas is my spiritual homeland. CTW Members AlexV Posted November 10, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted November 10, 2004 Clubbing in the United States is quite a different experience to what we're used to. I'm currently in New Orleans and went to a Hard Trance night over Haloween. Not exactly Hard Trance but it was close. Americans generalise most hard dance as Techno. Asking around for HH and Trance events in the US will not get you very far though. The DnB scene is, however, huge in the States and you'll have no shortage. You'll also find a lot of places that play breaks and nothing else. Clubbing is different in the US as there are strict anti rave laws that do not allow regular weekly events such as we have in the UK. You just have to hope that when you arrive in San Fran and Vegas that there will be some specially organised event. Best thing to do would be to type ..Trance Techno San Fransisco.. in google and see what it comes up with. I've been clubbin in both San Fran and Vegas and there are always events going on. I thought I mentioned all this in the PM I sent you Goshow? AlexV
CTW Members goshow Posted November 11, 2004 Author CTW Members Share Posted November 11, 2004 Night sorted in L.A. on the 20th. We're meeting up with some seriously foxy American chicks who are going to take us to Spundae Godskitchen, john 00 Fleming is headlining and i've been PM'd by some other US dj asking if we want to go to his afterparty at some big club. Sounds good to me. The only thing i am struggling to get round my head is the fact that nobody gets dressed up. Everybody says just wear a button up shirt and smart trousers. I've got these visions in my head of going into the club and it being like a scene from Miami Vice, Don Jonson style farah slacks, Pastle coloured suit jacket with the sleeves rolled up!!!! well We'll just have to see how it goes. We'll show these Yanks how its done, I think!!!!!!!!

CTW Members AlexV Posted November 13, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted November 13, 2004 A lot of the clubs in the US employ the smart dress sense rule. They will NOT let you in wearing any trainers in a lot of places. AlexV

CTW Members alasdairm Posted November 16, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted November 16, 2004 i don't think you can generalise - i've been to clubs in many US cities which advertise dress code, some which do but don't enforce and some which could not care less what you're wearing. as with most things, i find the answer is "it depends". goshow, sorry this is a little late... i live in san francisco (although i'm not there now) and i have a pretty good idea of clubs and club nights. what kind of music do you like? what kinds of clubs do you prefer? reply here or drop me a PM and hopefully i can help you find something you like (or avoid something you won't...) alasdair Quote "I've got medication, honey. CTW Members goshow Posted November 16, 2004 Author CTW Members Share Posted November 16, 2004 Alasdairm, I like any clubs really. obviously the harder the better, but we'd settle for a really good trance night. Jim
CTW Members alasdairm Posted November 16, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted November 16, 2004 well, the big name club in san francisco is 1015 folsom (that's the name and address). it's been a bit of an up and down scene because they went through a period where they were getting a lot of police attention and security got heavy. that aside, it's a pretty good sized club with a great sound system. trance was traditionally on friday nights and sunday nights. read 'the guardian' or the 'sf weekly' (both free) for listings. the dna lounge on 11th is one of my favourite club spaces in the city. again, watch the listings for club nights. my favourite club in the city is 550 barneveld. it's a bit further out (off bayshore) but it's a great space. they have events there less frequently. again, watch for listings. there's a lot of good 'microclubbing' to be had in san francisco - many venues like pubs with spaces in the back have regular nights mid week with a lot of great music. that's all for now. alasdair Quote "I've got medication, honey. CTW Members goshow Posted November 30, 2004 Author CTW Members Share Posted November 30, 2004 well we had an absolutely amazing time over in the U.S. Say J 00 Fleming at a club in L.A. he played well but the vibe was very strange. These yanks don't quite understand the concept of dance!!! Too many stories to tell and so little time. One of my mates spent over £1400 in 4 hrs in Vegas, and that was a quite night out!!!
