does anyone percieve a real difference between these two mp3 bitrates?

i can tell the diff between Cd and mp3 (not hard to) - cd sounds a bit clearer and sharper with "tingly" top frequencies (but i believe that's to do with the 44khz sampling, not the bitrate?), doesn't the higher bitrate just make it sound a bit "smoother" and more "polished"?

doing a soulseek search....most pop songs seem to be encoded at 128kbps, while new dance tracks seemt o be 192.

im not to picky so i dont notice much difference, basicaly dont go below 128 as there its going to sound tiny.

yeah, but some mp3 players do repair the damage done from teh compression (to a degree of acuracy), so even at 128kbps the compression isnt as noticable.
