  3. The Return of the ClubTheWorld Weekender... CTWers go central for a weekend of fun, frolics, laffs and good times with mates old and new. Presenting... CentreCore1 Date: 18th - 20th February 2005 Location: Midlands (Coalville and Birmingham) POST LAST UPDATED THU 20th JAN Overview: CentreCore will be a weekend of events for CTWers. The weekend is so called because it's getting back to the core elements of CTW (fun with mates) and the will be held in the central region. With a weekend full of events, people can take part in those that they want to, miss those that don't appeal, and bolt on their own sub-events. The weekend will kick off in style with a birthday party for NeoN @ Passion in Coalville. Watching the world's number one DJ, Tiesto, it's all about joining in the birthday celebrations and giving him a birthday bash to remember. After that, the party will move to Birmingham for a series of events from Saturday midday-ish through until late afternoon/early evening on the Sunday. Keep an eye on this thread for updates and further details as the become available. Please could peeps PM me or reply to this thread to let me know which days events you're planning on coming to. I would also be grateful if you could do the same once you've bought your tickets for Passion, if you're doing Passion. When I receive PM's/replies to this thread I will update this post and the calendar entry. Planning on coming to the Friday events: Bukey, dani_babyboo, NeoN, James, Maria, smitten_kitten, Mark2, Nik Planning on coming to the Saturday events: Bukey Planning on coming to the Sunday events: ------------------------------------------ Friday February 18th Meeting in The Engine followed by Passion @ The Emporium - both in Coalville, Leicestershire. This is NeoN's birthday bash! Come and help him celebrate - he even got Tiesto to play his party (LOL)... The Engine (Engineers Arms), Belvoir Rd, Coalville, Leicestershire, LE67 3PD map This is generally considered the pre-bar for the Emporium, and we'll be meeting here from 7pm onwards. It's right next door to the Emporium, so we won't have far to shift when we head off for Passion... Passion's 10th Birthday @ The Emporium, Belvoir Rd, Coalville, Leicestershire, LE67 3PD map 8pm-6am, tickets £20 by calling 0871 2200097 Passion Room: Tiesto, Guy Ornadel, Matt Hardwick, Marc West & Andy Bagguley Redroom: ATFC, Sonny Wharton, Shane Hopkinz, Chris Nobles + Live Percussion We'll arrange to meet several times inside throughout the night - details available soon. Tickets have been sold all over Europe for this event, and they're selling out FAST. You can book tickets by calling 0871 2200097. PLEASE BUY YOUR TICKETS SOON TO AVOID DISAPPOIMTMENT. The promoters are very confident that this event WILL sell out. Have bought tickets already: NeoN, dani_babyboo Full directions to Coalville can be found on the Emporium website by clicking here. Saturday February 19th The party moves on to Birmingham... The CTW Championships We'll be meeting from about 2pm in the City Centre to allow those that are staying in hotels to book in if required. An afternoon of games such as ten pin bowling and Laser Quest - we'll split ourselves into teams, depending on how many of us there are and battle it out for bragging rights. We'll use the Stirchley bowling alley, as this also has a Laser Quest built on. Pub Crawl As early evening approaches, we'll start a pub crawl. We'll spend an hour or so in the first pub, around the Acardian centre, to allow those that wish to to get changed in their hotels. We'll travel from the Acardian centre towards the business district and, if we get that far, end up in St Pauls - taking in pubs en route. Evening Clubbing There'll be several options for those that wish to to club - as line-ups are released, I'll put up more information. There is also Birmingham's weekly afterclub Afters @ Subway (4am - 10am), and Shaft (10am - 5pm). Sunday February 20th That said, people may not want to club all night. After a weekend of fun, I suggest we take the Sunday a little bit slower. Maybe meet up and have a pub lunch somewhere? I know a few places that, depending on numbers, will do an A La Carte menu for us (it's good food, and it's amazingly cheap). If not, we can just grab some normal pub grub. We'll meet at 12 noon (that's for those that didn't carry on all the way through!), as people will have to be out of hotels, and hit a pub to eat. After that, we'll play it by ear of those there until people say their goodbye's and head back to reality for work and the like Monday morning.

Event: ClubTheWorld Ireland Weekender Date: Friday 7th November - Sunday 9th November Details The plan for the weekend is to visit as many places as possible. On the Friday afternoon / evening will be spent checking into accommodation and settle you all in. We'll then go out for drinks in Ballymena Town or Belfast (Plenty of bars, small clubs, etc). On Saturday afternoon we can maybe go shopping in Belfast city centre for a few hours. Then come back to Ballymena and all go out for a meal and a few drinks, then proceed to whatever club is chosen. Sunday would be chilling out in the local pub having a few drinks before everyone heads home. MEET-UP INFORMATION Friday (Night) Meet-up Venue: The Grouse Pub, corner of Ballymoney Street / Springwell Street Time: 7pm Clubs: Will be decided on the night Saturday Meet-Up Venue: The Nobel Cafe, Church Street Time: 12 Midday Saturday (Night) Meet-up Venue: The Spinning Mill Pub, Broughshane Street Time: 6.30pm Clubs: To be decided on the night Sunday Meet-Up Venue: The Spinning Mill Pub, Broughshane Street Time: 2pm Club Suggestions: From Liam Styles LUSH! in Portrush is N.Irelands most popular club. An outstanding venue, with a great crowd and excellent, varied line ups. I visit this club regularly and love it so much. Guest DJs that have played in the last month or two include: Erick Morillo, Mauro Picotto, Judge Jules, King Unique, Futureshock, Dave Seaman, Guy Ornadel and Darren Emerson. Check www.kellys-portrush.com for more info, pics and line ups. SHINE is situated in Belfast and is held in the Queens University Student Union. It is N.Irelands best techno night and has a massive following. The venue isnt the best, but it is massive with 3 good sized rooms all playin different styles on rotation. Main room is usually techno, 2nd room a bit housier and the 3rd drum n bass or hip hop. Personally this is my favourite club as they always bring new DJs over aswell as the techno elite. Regular guests include: Riche Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Marco Bailey, DJ Rush, Cristian Smith, Jon Carter, Lottie, Fabio, Grooverider, Tim Westwood. Check www.shine.net for more info, listings, pics etc. THE MET in Armagh, a more straight up trance / hard trance night in a massive venue with awesome light displays and soundsystem. The venue is split into 3 tiers but all in one arena. Again THE MET has an unbelievable crowd, always packed and always friendly. New up and coming DJs from this country sit aside some of the worlds top DJs, the resident DJ is also very good. Recent Guest DJs: Lisa Lashes, JFK, Scot Project, Petrae Foy, Signum, Fergie (who is a monthly resident). Godskitchen also hold official nights at this venue. www.metarena.com THE COACH is in Banbridge, and is a mainly Hard trance / hard house club. Not beeen to it many times but the few times i have been i have had a good night. A few pikeys attend though. Usual DJs such as: Judge Jules, Scot Bond, Jon Kelly, Scot Project, Lisa Lashes. www.coachniteclub.com ENIGMA is a ver new club and is actually just past the border into Southern Ireland. I havent been as yet, but have heard really good things about it. Capacity is around 4,000. Its a brand spanking new club, with wicked light show, awesome soundsystem and fresh DJs. Guests so far have included: The Tidy Boys, Disco Bros, Paul Glazby, Phil Reynoylds, Spencer Freeland, Nick Raferty, Mark Kavanah, Jay Pigeon, A*, Scot Project. THE NETWORK is N.Irelands most established after hours. Its very dingy but thats what makes it so good. Line up is never known, but usually its a visiting DJ who has been playin one of the other clubs in the country that night. (probs from THE MET or THE COACH) expect the likes of Fergie, Lisa Lashes, Dave Pearce, Eddie Halliwell. HOW TO GET THERE By Air: Good flight prices can be found by checking www.easyjet.com for flight details (most English airports) or www.mytravelite.com (Birmingham). These are the two main lowcost airlines that fly into Belfast. When booking please insure that you book "Belfast International Airport" as your destination as there is a "Belfast City Airport" also. Obviously the earlier you book the cheaper the flight, so it would be advisable to book in advance. By Car: You can travel by car to Belfast by Ferry. A whole list of Ferry crossing and a variety of companies that provide services over to Belfast can be found here. By Coach: Coaches are available at very reasonable prices from most major places in the UK. Coach journeys include the Ferry across to Belfast Terminal. More information can be found at www.nationalexpress.co.uk. Advanced bookings (30 days) do work out cheape. OTHER INFORMATION Website: www.ClubTheWorld.com Accommodation: There is one main hotel in Ballymena, it is reasonably priced but also very nice. Its a very central location and in the centre of town. Prices are as follows (price is correct at time of this page going up - 14th August 2003) Double / twin room: £50 per night Single room: £35 per night You can also check their website www.adairarms.com for more information. Alternatively, Ballymena has lots of B&B's. LiamStyles has kindly visited a number of them over the last week and all seem to be of a high standard. The majority of them are all located near each other and close to the town. Most of them are quite small so all attendees may not be able to stay in the same B&B. As they are usually small, family run business websites are not available. But if you require more information please call LiamStyles on 07745358810. All these B&Bs have quoted a price of around £15 per person per night which is very reasonable. If you would like to join us for this weekender then please add your name to the dedicated post on the foums here. More Information: Please contact either @CreamyC OR @LiamStyles by email at CreamyC@ClubTheWorld.com / PM via ClubTheWorld.com Forums or text / call 07956 462 642. Please click HERE for full details on our forthcoming confirmed weekend in Ireland.
  8. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ right then if anyone's interested in checking out scotland's capital then this post's for you. if you're not, then, hmm.... i'm not going to try and convince you to come. bit of an introduction. edinburgh is a city in scotland. that means it's north of newcastle. the end. the festival: the city becomes VERY busy during August, the month of Edinburgh Festival (or Festivals). if you don't know anything about the festival, basically it's a combination of the comedy, arts and film festivals. which means as well as there being shitloads of tourists about because it's summer, it's also full of actors, artists, media types, etc -- you know the type of people who don't usually venture outside london. end result is that there is SHITLOADS to do, you could spend an absolute fortune just going to see comedy, you'll get flyered everywhere, and there's the possibility of seeing someone famous. transport: there's a direct train from kings cross that runs several times a day and takes 4.5 hours, can be as cheap as £35 return if you book in advance. there's also the virgin cross-country line which goes south-west after york and includes towns such as wakefield, birmingham and bristol. again, cheap fares if booked in advance. accommodation: there are two travel inns, a premier lodge and i think another budget hotel. aside from that, there are plenty of B&Bs, a sheraton and a hilton. however during the festival accommodation gets booked up VERY quickly and is not cheap, but i don't know prices, since i actually live here. there will probably be room for a few folk to stay in my flat if you're willing to bring sleeping bags, and you're ok with sleeping on the floor. and it's a student flat so it's not going to be as clean as your mum's. my flat is [currently] a 15 minute walk from the town centre. the clubs: first off, there are no trance nights in edinburgh. secondly, there's only one hard house night, "nuklearpuppy", which is poorly attended and badly run (allegedly). what edinburgh thrives on is house, prog, techno, drum & bass and hip-hop. we don't get big names such as PvD, Tiesto, etc, because there simply isn't a venue big enough for them. there are four or five main venues in edinburgh that hold "decent" club nights (i'm talking in comparison to your local Time & Envy or Ikon-type nitespots). scotland's licencing laws mean nearly all pubs are open until 1am. clubs are generally 11pm-3am. which means you're considered to be there early if you're there at 11.30. there are no afterclubs, and there are no clubs which stop serving alcohol at 3am but stay open later. 3am is your lot. however, different rules apply during the festival, as the council grants licences for most clubs to 5am, and pubs to 3am. this means a longer night, and the best thing is that you can start drinking again at 6am, with two pubs that for some reason are specially licensed to open that early. i would love to see some folk up here, but the thing i'm mainly worried about is it not living up to people's expectations. edinburgh's not considered to be a "clubbing" city by everyone else, but that's because in comparison to clubs down south, the scene up here is relatively underground. and i don't just mean that it's people don't want to see the same big-name DJs week in, week out; they want decent music and not just to get [censored] up on chemicals. that's not to say that the nights i have up here aren't [censored] amazing though -- they are. it's just it's different horses for different courses, what works well down south doesn't necessarily work well up here, and vice versa. different crowd, different tastes. Update: Potential Weekend Plans got some potential club listings for you. here's some nights i'm looking at to drag you all down to for the weekend of August 8th-10th and it's looking pretty good IMO, nice and varied. plus since you're up during the festival period, you get the 5am licences. Friday 8th: FreakLab (cross-genre) at Studio 24, Edinburgh . basically a separate spin-off night from local techno night "Dogma", it's some of the residents from Dogma along with other local names, and occasional guests. its first night is only this Friday, so i can't give any review of it yet, but the music policy is meant to be pretty varied, anything from house to techno to d&b to breaks to electro and all that's inbetween. [censored]-up no-boundaries stuff, basically. probably about £7 i should think. 10.30pm-5am (not confirmed, may be 3am). * edited to add: actually I've found out there's Edinburgh's attempt at a hard house night called "Nuklearpuppy" at Ego which will be on this night. yet to find details so i'll post them up when i do. could be a decent alternative to FreakLab, if anyone prefers that instead. Saturday 9th: Majestica (prog/funky) at the Venue, Edinburgh. it's a monthly night that i've been to a good few times now, run by three guys who are all nice chaps. the music policy is funky haas on the basement floor, and then upstairs on the main floor i'd probably describe it as general progressive-type stuff, with tribally house to start off with moving through to a more uplifting housey finish, sometimes nice and trancey, sometimes technoey, depends on who's playing! last guest they had was James Holden, which was amazing. very friendly crowd too. you can find a review i wrote here. £10. 10.30pm-5am. Sunday 10th: Taste (prog/funky) at the Liquid Room, Edinburgh. legendary long-running local Sunday night - went to the ninth birthday night last Sunday. Taste started out life originally as a gay night; if that puts anyone off then tough [censored], because it has a good atmosphere (again really friendly crowd), plays good tunes, and is an excellent way of finishing off the weekend in style! so if you're up for going out on the Sunday that's what i recommend. music policy starts off with kind of deep house and then builds up to progressive -- almost trancey -- in the main room, and funky house upstairs in the back room. there's a review i wrote here £10. 11pm-5am. then you all piss off home. thanks. the good thing here is that you get to see what i think are edinburgh's three best venues, all in order of cleanliness! there's Studio 24 (a converted cinema that's dark, dirty and minging; has a warehouse-feel to it), the Venue (a bit cleaner, but still has a nice underground atmosphere) and the Liquid Room (plays host to the biggest nights in Edinburgh and has one of the best sound systems, and has a laser too. wow). plus i know there's no big-name guests here for you to see, but for me it's all about the music and the atmosphere really, and i'd rate these three nights (well the two that have been going, anyway... freaklab like i say hasn't started yet) as being quality for tunes. no hard house & trance but i'm sure you'll like 'em. if you don't want to club all three nights, then of course there's plenty of other stuff to do. the pubs will all be licensed till 3am anyway. and there's restaurants, comedy, just pissing about in town... the choice is yours... BUT if you're up for trying something new and leaving the confines of the english border then, well... the kettle's on PHEW!!! massive fuck-off post. for more info on clubbing in edinburgh check out cscot.com -- soon to be redesigned and updated (it's a bit out of date just now). anyone interested? stick your name down and i'll try and get something sorted here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ !!!!
