BB Paul We were both extremely impressed with this cds versatility, not only did it get out feet tapping but also shows us that Paul isn’t all about playing the big room tunes. The cd glides from early set material, to pumping driving end of night tackle and ending with a sublime remix of his own of the Deprivation Records classic track – The Hustler. Damage & Narkotique The opening to this cd caught our eye more than the lot, much effort was put into the first few tracks which included a specially made intro followed by some relentless hard driving tunes from both the techno and the NRG stables. Even though this was enough to impress us, the mixing was spot on everytime and the tracks just got better and better! IK Ian Knowles is a cross between Eddie Halliwell and Yoji Biomehankia, he provides a very pioneering blend of both trance, hard trance, hard style, hard house and techno – and when fused together gives a sound that is unknown to today’s dance scene. He supplies music for all clubbers and is capable of playing any time slot. Booth The quiet northern lad comes up big with his cd. Once again a blend of warm-up material to peak time pumping tracks made him a sure fire contender for the final round. This combined with flawless mixing and spot on track listing made us compare him to the likes of Marco V for a pure energy fueled mix. Simon Paul Simon’s mix was like no other, every track on his mix was unknown to your average clubber – but you can’t help but bop to them! His mix compromised of the upfront beef on his forthcoming label would easily have any party maniac busting there groove, which surprisingly enough wasn’t as “thrap happy†as we thought…all tracks had a big groove to them with a catchy hook! Adam M Adam was one of the few NRG-fueled mixes we used, but we chose this for one reason – boy can he mix! His mix was crammed with all your popular NRG tunes from all the big labels, and mixed to precision. Although Adam maybe fairly unknown in today’s scene, its sure to say it wont take him long for his reputation to rise. Tim C Tim was a dj who impressed us immediately purely by his tracklisting – after we had got through the 21 tracks he put on his cd we realized he was a definite for the competition. The progression was flawless, the mixing was out of this world, and he quite easily covered every style of music apart from garage, lol. Adam Skeggz A.K.A The Skeggler Having first looked at this mix it looked fairly decent – after finishing listening to this mix we was amazed. The tracklisting seemed to be compiled of every quality producer from all the styles of music we was after, e.g. – BK, Marco V, Gaz West and Marcel Woods – but we wasn’t quite sure how it we go together…but oh my god it went beautifully! Gem Stone This southern-based dj really set the standards for the females. Her mixing was the nuts and the tracks were as driving as a power tool. A big combination of all the big styles and labels ensured her a place in the final. Sarah C Sarah’s mix showed us that she’s not a pigeon holed dj. Her mix was upfront tracks and classic floor fillers, it was both new producers and old producers, and it was banging hard and trancey as hell. What more could you ask from a dj! Nicky D Nicky was another dj that showed she wasn’t all about just one style. She mixed up all the styles from the uplifting sounds of MDA and Spherical to the beefier noise of Paul Glazby…all compiled beautifully with precise mixing! Kirtsy Lee James Kirsty’s mix was unlike others as she managed to capture the old sound of hard house with the new breed. The bouncier edge which we thought we were going to get more of in the competition was really brought to our attention, like Toms Project – Mindblowing – and effortlessly brought in the tougher energy tracks such as Drop The Dime. Yet another dj showing their versatility. Vicki Ward Vicki’s hard NRG mix really gleamed through, not contempt with just settling for your average mix she managed to gram 18 beastly growlers on this mix with a selection from un-released (at this time) beasts to current dance floor growlers. The mixing stood out once again from this young northern lass, and proved to us she has what it takes! Jenifa Jen’s tracklisting is what immediately jumped out to me – this was unlike any other female tracklisting (no offense to the fem’s out there). This compiled all the sexiest dirty techno tracks and funky numbers she had in her record bag. Fans of Cirez D and Valentino Kanzyani will love this girl – she confessed to us that hard dance isn’t all hard as nails…bring on the groove! Kris J Having looked over Kristen’s mix, we compared it to the likes of Eddie Halliwell – The tracks were put together in the frame of a roller coaster ride, they take you up and down etc. All the big trance tracks and techno influenced beasts we’re in there from Hertz, Marcel Woods, Johan Gielen, Cirez D and M.I.K.E. This set would fit in anywhere from Godskitchen to Dance Valley to Sundissential! -

Thanks to everyone who entered the DJ Competition - the standard was very high, and it was quite a task to narrow it down to just five finalists but we managed to do it in the end and here they are: DJ Skelp Chris Cee The Donton Kriess Guyte Stu Scott Congratulations to you guys. The final will be held at our FREE SUMMER PARTY @ Southside Bar on 2nd July from 3pm til 8pm. Each DJ will play an hour long set and the winner will play a set in the Guilt Room at our event at Deep Blue, SE One on 5th August. Good luck to you all, see you on the day.
-
Hopefully most of you have now at least heard of 'Guilt' - we put on bi-monthly events at Deep Blue in conjunction with Squelcher, and the last couple of parties have been amazing successes, with headliners Tim Davison and Anil Chawla really raising the standard. Well now's your chance to win a slot at our August event! We will be running a DJ Competition at our Free Summer Party @ Southside Bar on 2nd July (more details to follow), with the winner playing a peak-time set in August. Guilt's music policy is 'Tough House & Techno'. If you haven't been to one of our events, that means generally nothing too 'funky' and nothing too hard, but anything in between! The only rule for Guilt DJs is that they stay below 140bpm So if you think you're good enough and you'd like to enter, please PM me or email me - stuart.ainslie@ntlworld.com for the address to send demos to. Closing date for entries is 10th June 2005.

Hi All Just found this on another site.. it's from Paul Kershaw : As you may or may not know, I have a show on the Galaxy Network (Galaxy 102, 102.2, 105, 105/6) which is broadcast over most of the UK either on FM or DAB digital radio. It's also available on Sky Channel 921, Cable & NTL. The show is called Solid State and is broadcast Saturday nights 7pm-9pm. The music is predominantly 'trance' and has a variety of features, one of which is the Sol Showcase. Over the last 15 months, the Showcase has featured some of the world's finest dj talent in a 30 minute mix. As of 2005, every month I will be featuring a mix from someone who has yet to be recognised in the dance world in a new feature called Rising Stars, so this could be your chance. What you need to do is send me a 30 minute mix, preferably on CDR (but definitely on a digital format) to the address below. Along with this I'd like a little info about you, and a photo too. On the last Saturday of the month I will be selecting the top 3, and then getting a major club promoter / dj to select from the final 3 which one they feel should get played and why. The address is: Paul Kershaw Galaxy FREEPOST Birmingham B15 1BR As it's the start of the New Year you'll have to get a move on with this one, the closing date is 22nd January, but don't worry if they get here late, any that arrive after 22nd January will go through to February's competition. Thanks for your time and if this doesn't apply to you but you know someone to whom it might, please pass on the info KittyB
