LINEUP Claude VonStroke (Dirtybird Records USA) Graeme Lloyd (The Gallery) Big Daddy (Playtime) Jamie McHugh (Cr2/Brique Rogue) Jonty Skruff Vs Felicity Kastrow (Skruff.com / Tresor) Fabian Chui Ben Gomori (Maximal) + special guests Twisted Disco and Dark Deco are teaming up for an unmissable Halloween shindig at The Cross, guaranteed to blow away your incoming winter blues. This is no ordinary Friday night at The Cross though – The Wonky House Halloween Extravaganza is graced with the presence of one of the most exciting and widely-acclaimed figures in dance music in recent years. The man in question is the inimitable Claude VonStroke – a truly inspirational producer and DJ whose visits to London are few and far between. Claude (real name Barclay Crenshaw) first came to most people’s intention with his bizarre yet strangely addictive low-slung tech house cut ‘Deep Throat’ on his Dirtybird imprint back in 2005, and has since wowed the dance music masses with a slew of quirky, innovative, and most importantly downright groovy singles such as the classic, spooky ‘Who’s Afraid Of Detroit?’, the raucous ‘Chimps’ and the dangerously catchy ‘The Whistler’ (currently heard on T-Mobile’s new adverts). His music strikes that difficult balance between being credible while retaining a humorous element, sticking one in the eye of po-faced minimalists across the world. Elements of hip-hop, electro and ghettotech are blended with that jackin’ West Coast house vibe to create a truly unique, funked-up, naughty tech-house sound that entirely his own. He is a prolific and highly-desired remixer too – having remixed the two biggest tracks of 2006 and 2007 – Fedde Le Grand’s ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’ and Samim’s ‘Heater’ respectively, as well as superb reworkings of tracks by Mighty Dub Katz (Norman Cook), Luke Solomon, DJ Blaqstarr and The Rapture to name but a few. The Guardian said of his debut longplayer ‘Beware Of The Bird’ “not since Daft Punk donned robot suits has there been such a quirky, engaging house album as this”, while Richie Hawtin touted ‘Who’s Afraid Of Detroit?’ as his favourite track of 2006. This guy is by no means short on credentials. Joining The Birdman on the night will be a finely picked selection of London’s most talented tunesmiths. Big Daddy, the man behind the acclaimed GEEK and Playtime parties and the Playtime Records label brings his saucy take on house and electro, with Graeme Lloyd, a versatile regular at The Gallery and the man behind Subbass DJ Academy providing ample support to the proceedings. The currently on-fire Jamie McHugh serves up a set of his brash electro-tech that has seen him release tracks on Brique Rogue (‘Arcadia’ which was remixed by Claude himself), Lot49, Audio Therapy and Cr2. Jonty Skrufff teams up with saucy fetish-loving DJ/singer/vocalist and Tresor regular Fidelity Kastrow for a debauched electro-fest, with plenty more housey goodness from the likes of Maximal’s Ben Gomori and plenty of Twisted Disco and Dark Deco’s partyrocking DJs. Plus resident Fabian Chui delivers some funky, deep techno – having played alongside the likes of King Roc, Mike Monday and Spektrum within his first year of DJing. Keep an eye on this one and his forthcoming Stripped Back label….

About The Cross was a nightclub in York Way Goods Yard, King's Cross, London, England between 1993 and 2007, closing on New Year's Day 2008. The club was started by Billy Reilly and Keith Reilly, who had originally wanted to open a pre-club drinks bar next to Bagleys nightclub. Camden Council however granted the Reilly brothers a full dance licence and they started hosting club events at the Cross. The Key, The Cross & Canvas were all shut down in favour of the regeneration of King's Cross 😭 😭 😭 https://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/aug/13/what-happened-to-the-great-london-nightclubs The Cross reopened as a pub on 9 September 2022, close to the site of the club https://www.thecrosslondon.com/ Events Serious at The Cross Reviews Photo Albums

With the memory of Convergence the night before, I set off to see a different breed of hard dance DJ - some bloke they call Eddie Halliwell. The Cross itself is an amazing club. The crowd are some of the most up-for-it I've ever seen in my time clubbing, and the atmosphere of the place is off the chart. My only quibble is with too many people seemingly in one place. That and the heat, but once I'd found an air duct I was fine. Luke Neville's in the trance room showed me for the first time just why Serious regulars hold him in such high regard - the man was amazing. Elsewhere, the two lov-er-ly young fillies working the decks in the funky house room got my hips swaying for at least two reasons. Hopefully my photos came out..... However, the main reason I was there (well okay, the only reason I was there) was the man like Eddie Halliwell. And, as usual, he didn't disappoint. After missing Eddie Friday night at Slinky, he more than made up for it by playing a superlative set of some downright euphoric trance. Not as hard as I usually like it, but his encore made up for it.... Over 4 Me. Bits and Pieces. What Ya Got For Me? A double rewind of Madagascar. All impeccably chopped and scratched. Su-perb. By this time the dancefloor in the main room had cleared a bit, and I was able to dance like a loon to my hearts content. Fantastic end to a fantastic night. And then it was onto the after party.... TUNE OF THE NIGHT: Together - So Much Love to Give One of the few times I left the trance room was when the opening bars of this hands in the air house anthem echoed over to where I was dancing. A true tune that will live in the annals of the house music hall of fame. By Matt Young (@wub_wub) Photo Album

I've never been before and I'm going this Saturday... I hear that it's not the sort of place you can wear cyber gear to. So what kind of things can you get away with wearing? Don't really want to wear heels as i cant dance in them. And if i can't dance properly then i won't enjoy myself really... Can you wear white trainers? Help!
