  1. Vicky Devine is rapidly becoming known as one of the most talented female DJ/Producers within the current UK dance scene. Vicky has worked within the music industry from the moment she was old enough to club!!!! - firstly as a magazine club reviewer for Dream and Eternity magazines, then as a stage dancer - dancing at many top UK dance events including Dreamscape and Helter Skelter, before also becoming involved in a promotional capacity for UK based dance events. There was always a DJ inside though, and this coupled with her incredible passion for music and the support of family and friends alike eventually helped her to realise her dream. Starting in 1996 practicing in her friends bedroom every day after college, she has since gone on to wow many clubs in the UK, across Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia with her DJing talents. She has rapidly become known for her driving trance and hard trance sets, although she also now regularly plays on a more funky tip also. Her drive, determination and love of the dance music scene initially won her a residency at the most successful all female DJ event to date - Charlys Angelz. The night enjoyed two amazingly successful years (2001 and 2002) at beautiful Club Summum in Ibiza, and Vicky not only played at every event but also promoted the night and relative pre-parties. Charlys Angelz has since toured at venues across the world including Australia, New Zealand, Russia and Dubai and at clubs throughout the UK in conjunction with Flipside DJs. In addition the brand has hosted arenas at the mighty Sundance outdoor festivals (Ibiza 2001) and at two of the huge Big Reunion events in Skegness (2001 & 2002), as well as holding its own at the well established residents nights at Bananas in Majorca (2002) and Play 2 in Ibiza (2002, 2003 and 2004). It has received, and continues to receive rave reviews from many of the top UK clubbing magazines and internet clubbing sites, and remains an integral part of Vicky’s DJing career. Over the past few years, Vicky has also developed a love for the studio and has devoted much time to both creating, and learning the technical aspects of writing music from her heart - trance!!! Her first release written back in 2000 (as part of trance duo Sweet Asylum) went down a storm on the dance floors of Ibiza in summer 2001. The tune, also called Sweet Asylum, was released through Infectious Distribution, and was licensed to Pendragons Power Trance and Nu NRG album mixed by Mark Sinclair. Her second track entitled Angelz, also produced under the Sweet Asylum guise was signed by UK based record label Solar and is currently being remixed. Her third track entitled Fearing Nothing, co-written with @Sophie Sugar, was released at the beginning of 2003 on dutch label F-Active Music where the track was produced. Vicky is currently now back in the studio working on her first solo tracks. The first of these entitled Entravanse is currently doing the rounds on CDR and is already being played by some of trance’s top music jocks. This and her follow up tracks which will be completed within the coming months are certainly something to watch out for in 2005. The past couple of years have been an absolute roller coaster for Vicky with things going from strength to strength. She has participated in numerous tours including the SLINKY Asia tour in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur (2003), the SMIRNOFF EXPERIENCE tour in India, the aforementioned Charlys Angelz tour in New Zealand and Australia (2004), and she has now completed four successful seasons in Ibiza. Indeed the past two years on the white isle have been massive for Vicky. She has been a regular face at San Antonio’s superclub Eden in both 2003 and 2004 summer seasons, with guest slots at the massive Judgement Sundays (2004), Lashed (2003) in addition to completing a weekly residency at Tonic vs Pams House (2003). She has also played at many of the other top bars and clubs on the island including guest slots at Space and El Divino (2003 and 2004), and yet still found the time to front the hugely popular Angelz Westend Showcase at Play 2 every Saturday night alongside guests. Vicky has also been a regular feature at Majorca’s superclub BCM (2004), with a weekly residency at new night - Angelz of Funk. Radio work has also featured heavily in Vicky’s career to date. Last summer, Vicky was made Ibiza correspondent for Kiss 100FM, providing weekly reports for her own Talking Balearics slot on Steve Smart's show every Saturday night. This is indeed a job she is used to, having also been Ibiza correspondent for local radio station Fire 107.6FM in Bournemouth for the past three years. She again has provided weekly reports, interviews and guest mixes, and has also helped coordinate and present Fire In Ibiza - 6 weeks worth of shows over the past three seasons - live from the studios at the infamous Cafe Mambo. This work was submitted for entry by the station for the Sony awards and has been recognised as a huge achievement for a relatively small station. Work with both stations continues throughout the winter and there are plans also for the next season on the white isle. Here at the beginning of 2005, the roller coaster ride seems set to continue for Ms Devine. With further gigs throughout the UK, Europe and beyond already lined up, and exciting studio collaborations in the pipeline for yet more tracks - it seems there really is no stopping this girl. The past year has indeed been Vicky’s biggest year to date, but sets the stall for an even bigger future. Some events Vicky has played to date include (in no particular order) ... 2. Friday April 18th House Party @ My House 10pm - 5am Evening Entertainers: Vicky Devine AJ Gibson Marc Leaf Robin Chappell Arran Lee Danny Nicolaou b2b DJ Alkatraz Brand new event ‘House Party’ launches at Leeds venue ‘Myhouse’ this April. Vicky Devine joins original ‘Godskitchen’ resident AJ Gibson and Leeds’ own Marc Leaf on the bill for the first party on Friday 18th April. This promises to be a welcome addition to the Friday night club scene in Leeds with a policy to play a wide variety of dance music that is accessible to all. Headliner Vicky Devine’s track Silver Whisperer got some serious attention last year with plays on Radio 1 and the trance mistress is a regular fixture at Judge Jules’ huge 'Judgement Sundays’ events in Ibiza. However, she is also known to be a diverse DJ and this is one of the reasons promoter Arran Lee wanted her on board. ‘It’s hard but I’m trying to avoid the night being pigeon-holed to one genre of dance music,’ says Arran. ‘I want the emphasis to be on the flow and progression of the music over the course of the night rather than on one particular music genre.’ AJ Gibson is one of Arran’s favourite DJ’s who also played a part in bringing ‘House Party’, which started off with some successful nights run in bars, to the excellent ‘My House’ venue. Also with a reputation for variety, he was a natural choice to play for the launch event. Andrew ‘AJ’ Gibson was one of the original ‘Godskitchen’ residents when it really took off in the Midlands and has stayed with it as it has gone on to become one of the worlds leading dance brands. He has a long list of other heavyweight names on his CV including ‘Gatecrasher’, ‘Passion’ and ‘Slinky’ to mention a few and now DJ’s all over the globe. However, AJ prides himself on ‘playing the right tunes for the people right in front of him’, always giving each crowd the attention they deserve – an attitude perfect for ‘House Party.’ Bringing the local weight to 'House Party' is DJ Marc Leaf. No stranger to the Leeds club scene, 'Leafy' has been a popular fixture at many of the city's nights over the last 17 years and is currently resident at Rob Tissera's massive ‘Kiss Da Funk’ night. Marc will be aptly aided by Toolroom Records resident / tour manager and Ibiza regular Robin Chappell as well as up and comers Danny Nicolaou and DJ Alkatraz and the night’s promoter and resident Arran Lee. All in all, ‘House Party’ looks set to be a refreshing experience. With its aim of being not too mainstream but not too underground and with the vibe of a house party – it may plug a gap on the Leeds scene for those who don’t want to be pigeon holed or take themselves too seriously! Tickets: £8 in advance: http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=xx...;promoter=arran £10 B4 12am and £12 after. http://www.myspace.com/housepartyleeds Email: housepartyleeds@live.co.uk
  3. JUDGEMENT SUNDAYS IBIZA 2007: BEST OF BOTH WORLDS http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j284/Zoelee77/JudgementLOGO.jpg The juggernaut which is Judgement Sundays continues to steamroller all competition in Ibiza with its premier league line-ups, unbeatable atmosphere and innovation. Now you can have the best of both worlds: dance and rock under the same roof. 4. Vicky Devine has been involved in the dance scene since she was old enough to club!!!! She has been DJ'ing for 7 years and is wowing fans in the UK, and indeed around the world with a reputation built on her uplifting yet driving trance sets – although versatile Vicky is just as recognised for her house sets as well. Playing at numerous nights in the UK including Gatecrasher, The Gallery (Turnmills), Pams House (Norwich), Slinky (Westfest Festival), Escape (Swansea), Passion (Coalville), Tranzaction and on a worldwide level including on the SLINKY Asia tour in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, the SMIRNOFF EXPERIENCE tour in India and at clubs in Canada, South America, Dubai, Australia and New Zealand to name but a few. Vicky is also a regular guest at many top nights in Ibiza including her weekly main room residency at the massive JUDGEMENT SUNDAYS at Eden where she plays alonsgide the likes of Judge Jules, Eddie Halliwell, Lisa Lashes, Christopher Laurence, Matt Hardwick and Ferry Corston (2005, 2006, 2007), - not to mention a weekly residency at Majorca’s superclub BCM for her own night – “Angels of Funk” (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007). She is also one of the resident DJ’s at the most successful all female DJ event to date – “Charlys Angelz”. This has completed six successful years out in Ibiza at which Vicky has played each and every one! The brand has also hosted nights at numerous clubs as part of the Charlys Angelz UK and Worldwide tour, in addition to the brand hosting rooms at other collaborating events such as the Big Reunion in Skegness. Charlys Angelz remains an integral part of Vicky’s career and will be back in Ibiza for summer 2007 alongside a new UK tour. On the production front Vicky has also seen success. She had early productions as part of numerous collaborations which allowed her to subsequently move on to work on solo productions and develop her own sound. Her first release written back in 2001 (as part of trance duo Sweet Asylum and also called “Sweet Asylum”), was released through Infectious Distribution, and was licensed to Pendragons “Power Trance and Nu NRG” album mixed by Mark Sinclair. Her second track entitled “Angelz”, also produced under the Sweet Asylum guise was signed by UK based record label Solar. Her third track entitled “Fearing Nothing”, co-written with Sophie Sugar, was released at the beginning of 2003 on Dutch label “F-Active Music” where the track was produced. It is during the past year however that Vicky has come into her own as a solo artist. Her first solo production – “Entravanse” - was signed to Drizzly at the end of 2005 and released in March 2006 on their Illuminate sublabel along with a remix from Passion’s resident DJ Andy Bagguley. The track was licenced to four compilation albums, received excellent reviews in IDJ, Mixmag and M8 magazines and has also received support from some of trance’s top music jocks including Dave Pearce (plays on his Radio One Dance Anthems Show), Paul Kershaw (plays on Galaxy FM and voted 2nd in the Sol Selection), Adam White and Gav Mytchell (MOS Radio), Guy Ornadel and DJ Choose. Her second track entitled “Echoed Kisses” was also released on Drizzly’s Illuminate Records with a fantastic Paul Kershaw Remix, and achieved similar success with plays on Dave Pearce’s Dance Anthems, MOS radio, Galaxy and Vibe FM to name but a few. Echoed Kisses was also recommended tune of the month in IDJ and had fantastic reviews in Mixmag. Vicky has been back working hard in the studio throughout the winter, and her next two tracks (Silver Whispers and Eternal Dream) will be doing the rounds very soon as well as her very own remix of Solstice’s “Edge of the Ocean”. Radio is also a massive part of Vicky’s career having provided Ibiza reports and interviews for Paul Kershaw’s Saturday night Galaxy FM show (2006), Steve Smart’s Saturday night Kiss 100 FM Floorfillers Show (2004), Bournemouth’s Fire 107.6FM (2002-2004), and having also hosted her own show on Ibiza’s main dance music station Holiday FM (2005). In addition Vicky has been involved in television work with Balearic Babes (Rapture TV 2002) and also with an Australian production which included Vicky interviewing DJ Tiesto at Ibiza’s Cream Closing party (2005). She also recently had guest mixes and interviews on Eddie Halliwell’s BBC Radio One Show (Feb 2007), on Judge Jules’s Global Warm Up show (Dec 2006) and on Fergie's BBC Radio One Show for his "DJ By The Sea" Feature (2005). So at the beginning of 2007, the roller coaster ride seems set to continue for “Ms Devine”. With further gigs throughout the UK, Europe and beyond already lined up, and exciting studio collaborations in the pipeline for yet more tracks - it seems there really is no stopping this girl. The past year has indeed been Vicky’s biggest year to date, but sets the stall for an even bigger future. Check out her website for more details: http://www.vickydevine.com http://www.myspace.com/djvickydevine
  5. Vicky Devine has been involved in music in some capacity throughout most of her life. She is rapidly becoming known as one of the most talented female DJ/Producers within the current UK dance scene - Wowing fans worldwide with her uplifting yet driving trance sets and impressing people just much on the production front. With Ibiza season just around the corner I caught up with Vicky to find out what plans she has for the Summer andwhether she's excited about heading back for her residency at Judgement Sundays. So, tell us what you have been up to this year. Has it been a good one? My year started off in India where I did a new years eve gig in Goa right on the beach which was amazing. Have been non stop since then really with gigs at Gatecrasher, The Syndicate, Pams House, Tranzaction and for an MTV party to name but a few. I’ve also had a guest mix and interview on Eddie Halliwells show on Radio One in February, and I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio and have quite a few tracks coming out over the coming months – so I’ve been a busy bee!!!!!! Your first solo production – “Entravanse” was signed in 2006 and got a fantastic response. Things have been going very well on the production front for you since then. Have you been in the studio recently? Tell all …. Yes I was really pleased with the response to Entravanse as that had been my first ever solo production and the first time I had been in the studio for a few years up until then. I was also very pleased with my second release – Echoed Kisses which I had even more support on. I finished some tracks late last year which have just been remixed – Silver Whispers and Eternal Dream so am excited to see what will happen with both of those. I have also recently done my own remix of a Solstice track called Edge of the Ocean which is being released on Solarstone’s new label “Insatiable Records” which is wicked. And then literally just last week I was back in the studio working on another track which I haven’t even named yet!!! And have there been any collaborations you are excited about? I have been talking to a few people about possible collaborations for the future and am excited about some of the possibilities on the horizon although can’t go into that too much at the moment. In terms of remixes I have been really fortunate that a number of excellent artists have worked on my tracks so far including Andy Bagguley, Paul Kershaw and Ian Betts. And I hope to work with all of those again in the future also. If you really had to choose between DJing or production which one do you think you would opt for? My first love is DJing and always will be. I do love being in the studio also, and it is obviously a really important part of a DJ’s career to be producing their own tracks nowadays, but there is nothing better than being in a packed club playing amazing tunes!!!! You have been Djing for quite a while now and seen plenty of changes in the club scene. Where do you think it’s at right now? After a few years when I feel the scene had a big dip, I definitely feel that things are on an up at the moment. The bigger nights seem to be doing really well. Promoters, Dj’s and the actual clubbers all seem to have a new lease of life and are putting extra effort into things again. Obviously with music such as electro going into the mainstream its brought clubbing back into the mainstream also and the whole industry seems to have much more of a positive vibe about it compared to a few years ago. Its great to see and I can’t wait to see what happens this season in Ibiza also. I read somewhere that you have tried you hand at scratching…How’s it coming along? Hahaha – where did you read that? Its true actually – I’ve got my QBert teach yourself how to scratch DVD. My best friend Dan is really wicked at scratching and he’s tried to teach me a few times also but I have to say I don’t find it easy. I have much respect for Eddie Halliwell when I see what he can do hence the reason that I would be a little bit scared to try anything outside of my four walls – especially if I was following him at Judgement Sundays!!!! Festival season is fast approaching us. Have you played many festival dates and are you partial to a party in the park? I played in the Slinky arena at The Slammin Vinyl Westfest a few years ago which was fantastic. I was supposed to play an early set, but they had to change a few DJ’s around and I ended up with a 2am slot which was incredible as the arena was rammed. I would really love to do more festivals but I haven’t been able to do any for the past few years due to my Ibiza commitments which basically means I miss them all!!!!!! I absolutely love being at big outdoor events and I think you can’t beat the atmosphere that you get in a massive tent with thousands of clubbers so really am gutted that I don’t get to go to the summer festivals. You have had guest mixes and interviews on a few major radio stations do you think that’s something you’d like to get into more or would you rather stick to being a special guest!? Well its always great to be asked to be a special guest on someone’s show and I do do as many guest mixes as I can, but I have also done quite a lot of my own Radio work as well. I co-presented a weekly radio show in Ibiza a few years back on Holiday FM based out on the island and I have also been an Ibiza Correspondent for Fire 107.6FM (based in Bournemouth), Kiss 100 and Galaxy FM where I basically did reports from the island with updates of what was going on and some interviews with DJ’s. I love doing Radio and will definitely be doing some more stuff in Ibiza this year and would definately hope to keep doing things in the future also. So it’s Ibiza time again. How would you go about persuading someone to go that isn’t quite sure? Why would anyone need to be persuaded???!!!!!!!!!! Lol – god I don’t even know where to start. I have lived and worked on the island every summer for the past 6 years and every year I just love it even more. Its got everything – sun, beaches, excellent restaurants and obviously most importantly just about every top DJ you can think of playing in some of the best clubs in the world!!!! You can basically party and listen to music 24 / 7 if you want to – it’s a clubbers paradise – a very very special place indeed. There will be a big Indie presence in the back room at Judgement Sundays at Eden. Are you a fan and do you think this will work well there? I don’t know much about Indie music to be honest, but I do know that you need new ideas injected into the nights out there to keep them fresh and obviously different to the previous years and am looking forward to seeing the back room at Judgement this year. And who are you most looking forward to hearing in the back room? Well when I eventually yank myself out of the main room where I usually spend most of my night!!! Am really looking forward to seeing Micky Slim as am a big fan of his tracks. I heard on the grapevine that Peaches Geldof might be doing a little set on one of the Indie nights in there at some stage in the season………. although not sure how true that is… She did a little DJ stint at Bar M last year and I have been told she plays new wave rave so am intrigued!!! What else are you up to in Ibiza this year and do you find it’s important to give yourself new challenges there each year to keep things ‘fresh’? I will still be doing my own night “Charlys Angelz” which is an all female DJ event I do every Saturday at Play 2 in collaboration with femaledjs.com. I have been running the night on the island now since 2001 and I am pleased to say that so far it has always been a really big success. We cover all types of music starting with house and electro and then moving through trance and into hard dance, and have had most of the female Dj’s that you can think of playing down there at some point over the past 6 years. It’s a wicked little night that I love doing. I am also resident at another all female DJ night called Angels of Funk at BCM over in Majorca every Friday night so I do a bit of island hopping every weekend!!! This year as well as myself we have Radio One’s Mistress de Funk playing there which I am really looking forward to. Anyone that has been to BCM will know it is an absolutely amazing club and I just love playing there. I’ve got a few other things in the pipeline to keep me busy in the week and obviously the radio stuff I mentioned before. Finally a few quickfire questions for you!? Your hot tip for Ibiza this year? The Radio One Weekender – always amazing! One thing you would take on a desert Island with you!? My boyfriend – well a girl has her needs!!! An 80’s tune you’d love to remix? S Express – I know its already been done, but it’s the first tune I ever bought on vinyl and its still an amazing record! What’s in your car stereo at the moment? Prodigy – music for the jilted generation!! I moved recently and dug out a lot of older stuff. This Album is one of my all time favourites and is timeless! Thanks a lot Vicky. Look forward to hearing you out and about soon. Thankyou Zoe – look forward to having a Vodka or ten with you in Ibiza this summer!!!
  6. 8. An Ibiza update from @Vicky Devine & @Sophie Sugar ... "Have had a bit of a shock to the old system this year as like I said i am actually working my arse off!!! its not been the easiest of seasons so far as some of you know. But i am putting my all in and I guess I can at least come out of it saying that!!!! The night I came out to DJ at at Eden - tonic - which is every Thursday, has basically not been working amazingly well. don't get me wrong, as far as the night is concerned we are getting by, but due to a combination of things - the island being quieter than average and the opening of some other big nights has basically knocked us. plus our lineups aren't totally amazing which has made the whole thing hard to promote. Sophie and I have been responsible for all the postering and flyering in San Antonio for the event as well as DJ'ing there in the back room which has been dead!!!!! so you can imagine at times we have been tearing our hair out. the only saving grace really is that Charlys Angelz at play 2 every Saturday night is rocking and is packed every week - but as we all know this is in the west end and credibility is not associated with that neck of the woods particularly. things did get slightly better last week and this week we have the best lineup of the season and so we will have to wait and see what happens. On a plus note for me, Hannah and I have an ace flat and are having a wicked laugh. have had a few cockroach traumas, but then who doesn't over here. in addition I have managed to sort out a few smaller gigs in some other mainly funky places so am going to concentrate on them and just getting out of the season as much PR for myself as I can and meet new people etc. another thing that has been great is the radio. as some of you may know, Chris Bailey and I are doing live shows from cafe mambo all this week and in fact Chris is down there now doing bits and pieces for tomorrows show already. we really had to work our pants off to get all the material for this week, but have managed to get some interviews with some huge DJ´s and some wicked people out here so are really enjoying it - even if Chris hasn't left the studio for the past four days - i think he's enjoying it too. needless to say however that once this week is out of the way, we will both be going out and getting completely out of our faces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK - other news..................mmmmmmm, well, not much really. Haven't been going out loads as i just haven't had the time. Any going out has mainly been restricted to the Savannahs funky lounge where Hannah works and to Eden. Will be doing my utmost to get out and about a bit more now the season has kicked off a bit though."
  9. My photos from last weekend in Ibiza are now up ! HUGE thanks goes to /images/graemlins/star.gif Sophie Sugar & Vicky Devine /images/graemlins/star.gif (part of Charlyz Angels) for organising such a great weekend for us and putting in contact with so many key people... /images/graemlins/grin.gif
