It kind of collects updates of the site like new posts, updated profiles etc, and it then updates google with all the information.

he crawls a site, gathering information on whats been posted and the content.. then it indexes all the links it finds, cross references them with links on other websites, then index them in googles browser.. creating like a credit score... basically the Page Rank.. the higher the rank the page gets, the higher up the search engine list u go.. it speeds up it's searches for sites when u type into google what ur looking for..
