CTW Promotors Lisa Posted January 12, 2005 CTW Promotors Share Posted January 12, 2005 Right than dj's of CTW, what would you say in your opinion is trhe easiest & what is the hardest genre to mix? Quote Techno, Techno, Techno
CTW DJs LiamStyles Posted January 12, 2005 CTW DJs Share Posted January 12, 2005 Cant say there is a particular genre I struggle to mix. But I think the faster the music (within reason) the easier it is to mix. CTW DJs LiamStyles Posted January 12, 2005 CTW DJs Share Posted January 12, 2005 techno can be a hard genre to mix well. DJs will be able to beat match but it takes alot more than that with techno. Quick mixes, more eq work etc. Best way is to use 3 decks. CTW DJs Chris-Hutchinson Posted January 13, 2005 CTW DJs Share Posted January 13, 2005 (edited) I would say some of the easiest ones are: *Hardhouse *Hardtrance *Hardcore *House *That Hardhouse/Techno hybrid stuff *Techno (when mixed like hardhouse) More Intermediate genres: *Trance *Progressive/Goa (due to the fact you have to layer tracks together much more technically) *Drum N Bass Hard Genres To Mix: *Psytrance *Hardstyle *Techno (when mixed properly) Wouldnt really know where to put breaks, hiphop etc though Edited January 13, 2005 by Chris Hutchinson

CTW DJs Chris-Hutchinson Posted January 13, 2005 CTW DJs Share Posted January 13, 2005 You know Chris I wouldnt have thought hardstyle would have beem hard!! Suprised at that TBH. 150556[/snapback] Its a LOT harder then it seems - tracks sometimes have unmixable intros, and extra beats thrown in which screws up the structure... its a genre where you need to know every track you have like the back of your hand before you can mix it well (god I sound like im bigging it up dont I ....for the record, I cant stand hardstyle at all!) Guest
For me .. Easiest - Hardhouse Hardest - Trance
CTW Promotors Lisa Posted January 13, 2005 Author CTW Promotors Share Posted January 13, 2005 well I cant mix for toffee so they are all hard for me, but I do find it easier to get a mix going with prog than HH, I find the faster the harder!! CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted January 14, 2005 CTW Members Share Posted January 14, 2005 I'd say breakbeat is one of the easiest Chris (and d&b too). Agreed with Maria that trance is one of the hardest styles of music to mix. The scope for horrendous sound-clashes is huge! You have a lot less flexibility in what will mix into what, and when you can bring the next track in. The more intense, the trickier -- it becomes increasingly hard to pick out the beats as they are drowned out by fat synths and pads which occupy almost the whole frequency spectrum and are heavily compressed! I understand that hip hip mixing is largely about timing: you have to know your tunes really well, because often there is only one place in a record where you can realistically cut/scratch in the next track, and if you miss it you're a bit fucked. Obviously beatmatching does not factor into it.
CTW Members djandrewmartin Posted January 14, 2005 CTW Members Share Posted January 14, 2005 I have to say that I really dont think that any style is harder than the other to mix. I think that can mix any genre that you have a true passion for....that way you hear more in the music when you feel it and it touches you inside.... When you have a passion for a certain music, you understand it more and the way it works in structure and beats and whatever else..... CTW Members Phil rr Posted January 14, 2005 CTW Members Share Posted January 14, 2005 (edited) have heard that trance is more tricky than hard stuff. whether thats cos trance is more "delicate" in the way you put the tunes together, and with "hard" you can get away with just glueing the records together, or whether it's that at hard nights everyones so battered they don't care, and at trance nights people appreciate the quality of the music more, i dunno. i thought the thing about techno was that you bring in a new track every 45 seconds and often use more than 2 decks Edited January 14, 2005 by Phil rr
