WHAT LITTLE RESPECT I HAD FOR THE POLICE

please excuse the long explanation, but i am very pissed off and upset by this

fri was my dads birthday, and being a good business man my dad had accepted a dj booking for one of the bars we work with. We decided that i would dj and my dad would have a mini party. his girlfriend and my sister came along as well

all was going well, til it was getting quite late and my sister was getting a little tired, so she decided to go out to her car for a quick nap.

next thing me or my dad know is that after i have finished off djing and started packing our kit away that my dad goes to find my sister to find her car empty. some guy from the next door pub comes running out and explains that he saw the police approach her car and then arrest her.

after many phone calls we find out which police station she has been taken to and my dad gets in a cab to go there.

he isn't allowed in, told to wait outside, and my sister emerges charged with being drunk in charge of a vehicle. this was because she had got in and turned her engine on so that she could have the heating on whilst she went to sleep.

FUCKING OUTRAGEOUS >:(

but the worst bits i haven't mentioned yet.

her car was parked less than 50 yards from the bar we were in, and the police would not send an officer in to speak to my dad or I, or even let my sister phone us up to let us know what is happening.

and the reason why the officers did not want to enter the bar was because they did not want to be attacked, and this if from a fucking huge police officer, and the bar was in the city (of london) and not a nasty place at all, in fact the area is not dodgy in any way

the car was also parked on a private street meaning that the police should not have had any jurisdiction on this sort of matter there, opposite was a car park full of adolescences blaring out their car stereos and revving their engines and generally disturbing the peace yet they picked on my sister, who wasn't doing anything

she now has a hearing next friday and is liable to lose her license for simply going to her car in order to get a quick 40 winks before we got a cab home

to say i am fucked off is an understatement and both me and my dad have been very upset by all this as my sister is the most law abiding and honest person i have ever met and most certainly does not deserve beihng bullied by police, almost certainly to fill a goverment quota (which is a shit system to run pretty much any organisation, and especially the police force)

there is something horribly wrong with the police service and it needs to be fixed

it has turned me and my dad into emotional wrecks, and my sister is likely to suffer hugely if she loses her licence as she needs her car to get to work, and she is moving soon so that will impair her no end. i really cannot think of some1 who does not deserve this as much as my sister

fucking pisses me off at how shit the system is

I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse.

Doubt it, three bored, oppionated magistrates who want to go for a drink will see to it she looses her licence.

Doesn't matter if they caught her on CCTV, as they will argue she had the intention to drive. Plus I believe you can be charged even if you haven't moved the car, or have started it, you just need the keys to be in your posession.

I think that if she hires a decent lawyer she should be able to have the charge overturned by the typically overzelous police.

Thats not good, sorry 2 hear that dude, but the thing is she probably would of got away if she hadnt of started the engine, also if she was in the drivers seat then they would of suspected that she was going to drive?? Or was she lay down in the back?????????

The law's an ass, unfortunately. Technically, if she had the keys on her then she was drunk in charge of a vehicle - she didn't even have to put the key in and turn it, technically.

I think the way the police handled the whole situation was wrong - they could argue that they were following the law in arresting her, but they should've at least let her talk to you/your dad. Even then, I think the law is wrong, but the way it stands she did break the law (though it would've been nice for common sense to prevail).

Through a personal experience in December on the Midland Metro, I have lost all respect for the police. For tapping a lady on the shoulder and saying excuse me after she ignored me (she'd just barged through me and two other people), I almost got done for assault. She threw a hissy fit because I'd tapped her on the shoulder to gain her attention to tell her how ignorant I thought she was. The Metro driver called the police, who proceeded to listen to her side of the story. They let her go and read me my rights - then "advised me" to "say nothing" and told me that she would be going down to the station to make a formal statement on the Saturday, and I'd then be called down to the station to make a statement where I'd probably be charged.

I wasn't having any of it and demanded they listen to my side of the story, and explained that if I was going to be done for assault for tapping her on the shoulder then I would definately be making a counter claim as she'd literally barged through me. The officer then proceeded to try and tell me to say nothing as he'd have to write it all down - and I explained that's exactly why I wanted to give my side of the story, whilst it was fresh in memory and my words couldn't be twisted at the station because it had happened several days previous.

He then wrote down several major mistakes which I noticed when he read it back to me, which I pointed out. He corrected them, but only after screaming at me that it wasn't his fault if it was wrong because he'd told me not to say anything.

I never heard a thing until a week ago Sunday. They phoned me to formerly tell me that it was pretty clear from my side of the story what happened and it would be the last I heard of the matter.

The police force needs replacing en-masse by a new "Public Order Service" where all officers are called "Public Order Servants" - they need to understand that they are there to aid and serve the public, not to cause as much shit as possible to aid their arrogance, insecurities and power trips.

I know that not all those in the police service are as bad as this, but the few incidents I've been involved in, witnessed or heard about over the past few years have seen a lot that are.

sorry to hear of your sister dilema....but.................. she did have a drink, she did have the engine of her car running........so unfortunetly the law says she was "incapable in charge of a vehicle"

Have you ever had a drink, fell asleep ,woke up and not known where you were??

got up and did something crazy?....I think we have all been there at sometime or other.

Let me give you an example.............

One Christmas my other half hand more than one too many came home fell asleep on the settee woke up and although I was sitting in the same room as him he looked at me and said "where's mam"....(meaning me) he then proceeded to look for me in the cupboards and other laughable places he then went out the front door and went up the street looking for me he ended up about 3 miles away.

What I am trying to say is what if your sister woke up thought omg what am I doing here everyone has gone home and started to drive home??????

Sorry to say this and I think I will have a back lash for saying so but.........

she is guilty of being incapable and in charge of a vehicle every case has its merits

even if she had a good lawyer the police could say she may have started the car but then collasped into a sleep before she managed to drive off!!!!!!!

Maybe she will be able to fight a better case depending on her blood alchol count.

sorry!!!!!! but thats my opinion
